androidpolice.com/gboard-new-ai-… So proud of the team behind this launch! It is a result of a tight, iterative, and truly human-and-task-centered AI and UI engineering . From interaction design to LLM training, on-device inference, and human x auto evaluation, then back and forth ...

Proud to share our @Android Earthquake Alerts system research on the cover of @ScienceMagazine! We've made huge strides over the years, and it’s available on the vast majority of Android devices, regardless of brand or model. We’re always working to keep you safer on Android.

A global Android smartphone-based earthquake detection and early warning system can detect seismic activity in real time and deliver life-saving alerts with effectiveness rivaling that of traditional seismic networks, according to a new Science study. So happy to have @tsmullaney back to give another fascinating talk at Google. An hour after the talk many were still hoping to ask yet another question. Thank you and congratulations Tom for the new book. youtube.com/watch?v=XBVNy-…

@jeffbigham Although publications is only a small part of my time investment, I share the same feelings. In fact a bit more frustrating: on average deeper research is less likely to be accepted.

some of the #chi2024 papers i was a coauthor on were accepted, and some were rejected. i can honestly say i would not have predicted which ones fell into which categories correctly, which is probably a problem.

"Ces tis otu"! Very interesting idea indeed. Impressively the #Gboard Proofread feature that my team and colleagues launched in Pixel 8 can already do the same. See the screenshot of Gboard.

Very interesting idea. I tried a custom version of it with a simple prompt and it worked really well out of the box. Basically, GPT is surprisingly good at correcting minor typos, so you can write really really fast, ignore mistakes and keep going, and it comes out just fine.

🌶️How to 5x your typing speed and be in a flow state while you type? (no joke) Use my customGPT - The Flow Speed Typist. (link in the next post) It’s a fascinating concept. Bookmark to think about it later. One of the AI’s Superpowers is its ability to understand extremely badly written text. You can type so badly that the words are barely recognizable… But somehow ChatGPT (if prompted right) understands them perfectly. (See the screenshot.) You have to try it to fully grasp it. Cool, but is this useful? It gives the possibility to everyone (no matter if a good typist or not) To type fast WITHOUT the need to look at the keyboard (or the screen) even once, Thus entering a flow state while typing. It's great for: writing longer texts, journaling, brainstorming, and so on. — The average speed of typing for a normal human is 30-40 words per min. (According to GPT-4) The World champions level is around 200 words per min. Everyone who is not a good typist knows that this hinders them from letting their thoughts flow easily through their fingers. This is why many people try to improve their typing speed (or at least think about it). — How to try it? You can do it directly in the GPT, but a better way is to do it in a notes app on your computer. When you finish, just copy-paste the (mess of a) text in the GPT. When you start, just make sure that you’re actually writing. Just type away... Don’t look at the keyboard and don’t go back correcting any mistakes. If you’re on a wireless keyboard, you can even do it without looking at the monitor at all. Like writing on a typewriter. It takes a little practice to get used to it. It can be transformational. — Is it a good practice to type like a monkey? :) This is for you to decide. I’m just pointing out that this capability exists now thanks to AI. That’s it. Try it in the CustomGPT in the next post, if you feel like. Write a comment and share what you think. Also follow me @_borriss_ for more cool AI stuff.

You guys know I love this Xiaomi 13 Ultra. But the Pixel 8 Pro is making it hard for me to reach for it. The main reasons have to do with typing. Typing makes up a huge part of our phone use, probably the biggest part out of any other task. Google doesn't get enough credit for having the best typing experience on any phone. It's not even really close. Even other Android phones with Gboard feel like they are years behind Pixels, and iPhones are even further behind. To be specific, the autocorrect is better, and Google just added a new "Fix It" feature that uses AI to accurately correct errors better than any autocorrect I've ever used. Even I, the king of typos, am having a hard time living up to my name with this phone. On top of that, when I want to just skip the keyboard and use voice dictation, the Pixel is again years ahead of the competition, and again, it's not close. The typing experience alone is enough to make me stick with Pixel phones. It is what it is.

@DoorDash_Help But nothing has happened. When I called @doordash yesterday again about what happened, she said I never called before and the time of complaint had expired then she hang up on me. I've enjoyed DoorDash many times before, but this one is disappointing, even insulting.

Some days later when I was able to reach @DoorDash_Help customer support, she apologized for the experience and said they would investigate and refund. I was happy to hear the care about what happened to the delivery system.

Very frustrating exp w/ @DoorDash. Ordered sushi after a long day. After receiving the "your food is on the way" msg, we waited till midnight but nothing was delivered. The app says the food was delivered with an image shows its location. But no such message received.
