I had an in-person appeals conference with the IRS today at 290 Broadway. On the floor for the appeal, there was a pay phone that had a NYNEX logo on it. NYNEX (a former Baby Bell) merged with Bell Atlantic in 1997, then GTE in 2000, becoming Verizon.

The irony that the GOP and current admin have attacked DEI for putting people in leadership positions that didn't deserve it in lieu of merit based promotions is comical. This is the nominee to lead the IRS who was woefully unprepared for their confirmation hearing and lacks any merit to hold the position.

I think too many people do not understand the $10,000 SALT cap was put into place by Republicans to pay for other items in the TCJA.

Hey #TaxTwitter - Client filed return 10/15 with good-sized refund. We elected to apply a portion to Q1 Estimate, refund balance. Balance was refunded, but interest wasn't paid. 10/15 is more than 45 days after due date - why no interest? Is it based on date filed?

@mountainwesttax Practically speaking, I would simply file on Sch C for now and clean it up later. Wasn’t a partnership, so don’t file a 1065. Doubt they’ll even flag the issue but if they do it’ll be pretty straightforward to explain what happened and forward the form(s) where the income went.
