I knew cash would be a problem. I was pre-approved at a much lower interest rate with my Credit Union when I went to buy a new car. They would be fine with me paying the loan off with no penalty after the first payment. I thought that would make the miserable process easier. I was getting hammered to use dealer financing, which was higher because they didn't believe me, even though I showed them the document. Salesman and manager had doubled up on me. Then the shift to adding a bunch of extras I didn't want. Another fight. Back to financing again, now they want to run my credit. OK. They both had a funny expression on their faces when they returned. I asked if something was wrong. Manager says in the 15 years he's been doing this, he's never seen a credit score that high. I asked if he'd beat the CU rate. No. I walked out, they ran after me. I would get a new car every few years if it wasn't such a terrible experience.

Biggest "the kids are fucked" moment I've had recently was buying a car Walked into the dealership, told them what I wanted and said I'd pay up-front. Expected them to be thrilled Instead they were horrified. Spent the next 20 minutes trying to get me to finance it at some absurd rate Got me curious so after I left I read about car sale profit models. Apparently most US dealerships make more financing now than from the cars themselves I was such a boomer I assumed they'd want CASH In reality they want your ETERNAL SLAVERY at 19% APR

Genghis Khan figured it out a thousand years ago. Small family-based tribes, warriors on horseback took turns doing stealth, rapid hit and run raids on each other. If you did accidentally die, the tribe abandoned your dependents to fend for themselves. You weren't just risking your life, it was your whole family's existence at stake. Death from exposure, starvation or getting picked off by another tribe was almost certain. Genghis Kahn changed that by taking in the family of one of his dead warriors as part of his family. It turned into policy. No more abandonment, the tribe will care for the warriors' dependents. He had tons of new recruits in no time. They were much less risk-adverse because they knew their dependents would be cared for instead of abandoned. A legendary fighting force that built an empire based on a commitment to each other that flowed from good leadership policy.

@sword_cross_ben I'm a convert. When I told my non-religious mother I was being baptized in the Catholic church her response was, "You belong in the Catholic church, you were born with the guilt."🤣

So I keep hearing from prots about this Catholic guilt. Is that supposed to be an immediate thing or does it take like 5-10 business days? I dont feel anything of the sorts yet.

@swamthetiber25 About 3 1/2 hours. All 7 OT readings, 30 baptized. I've been in this parish over a decade with same priest. First time we have done more than 3 OT readings, between 3-6 baptisms is typical.

Curious, how long was everyone’s Easter Vigil Mass? Mine was 4 hours (7:45-11:45pm) with about an hour of that being baptism and confirmation.

@_ChikkenTikka @michaeldweiss I would prefer keeping government out of health care as it appears the more involved they get, the more money is stolen and/or wasted. Throwing away money in the name of health care doesn't save any lives.

@SootLady @michaeldweiss If the US government valued human life, it would introduce proper public health insurance for all ordinary American citizens. It's less spectacular, but it saves more lives. And your tax dollars would actually do something good for a change.

Details about the rescue op for the U.S. Weapon Systems Officer, via a U.S. military official: "The mountain top area on the left is where the WSO was hiding (he ejected 5ish miles northwest of there). The right area is the makeshift landing strip where they landed 2 C-130s and had 4 MH-6 Little Birds. "One Little Bird flew to that mountain top area and rescued the WSO and brought him back to the landing strip. And of course the two C-130s' nose gears got stuck in the dirt. So after a few hours they had to bring in three AFSOC Dash-8s to fly out the rescued WSO and the 100 or so personnel involved in the op." 1/2

Did we get the second pilot? Did we really rescue the second pilot? Can someone tell me if this is true? I mean I do always believe Gunther and he says it’s true. I think he said it was true and wow oh my God oh my God what an Easter!!! He has risen!!!!!!!! I don’t know if you all know what it’s like to have skin in the game and what it means but I have an active duty son and I have an active duty daughter and I fear the knock every day!

@Hot_Pepper76 There are plenty of adult-only communities for those that find the sound of kids playing outside disturbing. I would much rather see (and hear) them outside instead silence because they are glued to a screen.

It was 5:15pm, Easter weekend. My teen is babysitting triplets who are nine years old. They are outside in our backyard, playing and singing, and a neighbor came over to complain that they were too loud. Not midnight, not blasting music, just kids being kids outside. I love the sound of kids playing and singing.
