Cllr Kieron Williams and a selection of Southwark Council staff met up with @willnorman, London's walking and cycling commissioner to check out some of the sites that have been transformed to improve road safety and boost green spaces. The tour included a look at the UK’s first bookable loading bays on Walworth Road, traffic calming measures on Alberta Street and Braganza Street, as well as new pocket parks - designed to help kids play on the way to and from school. #streetsforpeople

I am proud today to be a co-sponsor of a new Parliamentary bill to crack down on “ghost” car number plates - used by drug dealers, hit-and-run drivers, terrorists and other criminals to hide their identities from the police. Rochdale Trading Standards and police have led the country in exposing how ghost plates use 3D or 4D lettering, which looks normal to the human eye but can't be read by police ANPR cameras. Rochdale’s “Operation Ghost” toured the country, using infrared cameras to identify these plates - even finding some in the DVLA car park. The Vehicle Registration Offences Bill, a 10-minute rule Bill led by my fellow Labour MP @SarahCoombesWB, will increase fines and introduce penalty points for those who use ghost plates. That’s a key step to what I want to see overall, which is making their use illegal. I was delighted to present Rochdale Trading Standards with a special Heroes award last year in Parliament for their work on this vital issue.
