@SteveRyfle @OmniandSnazzy In your "Whitewashing Godzilla" hit piece, you said G14 wasn't about anything because it didn't address everything bad about the bombing that you wanted it to. Likewise, Accented Media made the mistake of saying G-1 didn't address everything bad Imperial Japan did.

@paulm_fpl I found some scribbled notes from back then. The story was reportedly published in the August 1963 issue of the magazine "Warai no izumi" (Wellsprings of laughter). I would have to dig much deeper to find the title of the story, but I hope this helps

@SteveRyfle I have been trying to track down some of the textual history of _Matango_. You mentioned in your 2017 book on Honda that Tomoyuki Tanaka "commissioned an original story from [...] Masami Fukushima" based on Hodgson's story, which was published in Aug. '63. (1/2)

@JohnDBaldwin1 I remember reading that. I wondered if Ishiro Honda — by this point a major presence and frequent mediator when tensions arose on these later films — attempted to intervene. But from what @SteveRyfle tells me, Honda probably wasn’t present for this famous confrontation.
