Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach. The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

When exhaustion overtakes distraction… After ending up in the hospital in the middle of the night with three different viruses ravaging his little body, a non-stop nose bleed from nasal suction irritation, a diminished lung and the associated labored breathing. No ER visit or hospital stay is truly enjoyable, but this one has been a little rougher for Iron Will. And us. Because we can’t ease his sadness and struggle. He’s fighting thru it - we just have to get him to a place where he doesn’t require so much assistance to breathe. Scanning my feed throughout the night reminds me that adversity, sickness and sadness enter all of our lives. So, if you are able and inclined, join me this morning in separating ourselves from the kinetic nature of a broken, chaotic world and offering up prayers for Iron Will and everyone facing challenges that require answers, solutions or acceptance more profound than anything our mortal minds can generate.
