With all the talk about how terrible No Time to Die is, it's worth remembering that one of the worst Bond films predates Craig: The Man With the Golden Gun. Terrible script, Moore off-key, Christopher Lee sleepwalks (as usual) & it looks cheap and tacky. Almost killed the series.

@scottygb It's one of the last series on ITV along with Coronation Street to survive to this day. But 70 is a good number to bring it to a full stop, let them enjoy the rest of their lives. Losing Michael Apted was probably a massive deciding factor too.

It's not only one of the greatest documentary series ever made, it also feels like it comes from a different age entirely. I doubt a broadcaster would commit to such an ambitious series today.

@MOVIETVWRITERX @TomAandTom1 @CinemaTweets1 @worldofreel Let's be generous and say 5 including What Happens At Night. I think the following 4 might be... Midnight Vendetta His planned adaptation of Marilynne Robinson's 2008 novel Home His planned Jesus film The long gestating Theodore Roosevelt biopic.

DEVELOPING: There’s speculation that Martin Scorsese is shooting two films this year. Currently, What Happens At Night, is shooting in Prague & set to wrap in May. This is the film we’ve seen stills of with Leonardo DiCaprio & Jennifer Lawrence. But recently, @worldofreel reported that casting grids already appear for Scorsese’s “Midnight Vendetta” in USA Production, Production List and Production Weekly- all set to shoot in December in New Orleans. I cannot confirm if Midnight Vendetta is shooting in New Orleans in December yet- but my god…could you imagine? If at 83, Marty gave us two releases like this? Scorsese is the reason I started this account. He’s one of my life’s biggest inspirations. I would LOVE to see this all take place.

@eddie19666 @DA_WooGo Doing more straight performances is something Freddie Starr should have worked on, and with a bit of experience and practice, his career could have gone another way. He might have ended up on the likes of New Tricks or Coronation Street or something like that.

@DA_WooGo Freddie Starr was good in that & could have had a proper acting career. The lure of eating hamsters was too great though

Goodnight Sweetheart not going to series after the 2016 BBC sitcom season was baffling. It had the best audience appreciation scores of all the pilots. Plus the original star & writers. If it was a BBC Studios show it would have happened. @marksandgran youtu.be/Hv5PzmoArPE?si…

@WesleyDolan @DonaldClarke63 Ryan's Daughter was an even more overblown slog than Zhivago, especially as most of cinema then had been caught in the headlight gaze of New Hollywood. At half it's length and indeed half it's scale, Ryan's Daughter might have got away with it.

@DonaldClarke63 I was surprised to read on Wikipedia that it was a proper blockbuster hit. I was under the impression that it flopped but I was probably confusing it with Ryan's Daughter.

DOCTOR ZHIVAGO is the “big film” on BBC 1. Dear god, how did this bogus slog get to be one the biggest films of all time? (It’s still number eight after adjustment for inflation, in between Jaws and The Exorcist). All trains and ADR. Klaus Kinski’s good though.

@seanonolennon You should see the ones I got AI to do of Noel Edmonds and Mr. Blobby in a Wetherspoons toilet, definitely NOT art! 😳

I have also been thinking about the question of whether AI Art is actually Art. I believe it is not. My reasoning is as follows… When we wish to criticize the work of human beings we say that it is ‘manufactured,’ or worse ‘exploitative.’ If, for example, a film is both of these things, then we do not consider it ‘Art’ with a capital A. It is simply ‘commercial trash.’ By definition everything that AI makes is both manufactured and exploitative. It is manufactured because it is produced by a machine. It is exploitative because it was created by regurgitating the work of actual human beings. Therefore it is not Art, but it is a product like any other. That doesn’t mean it has no use. I think it will become essential in many ways. But we must not mistake what it does for genuine creativity. Not yet anyway…

Nolan is inherently a non violent filmmaker. It’s that simple. All the semantics is bullshit. He could make Taxi Driver but it wouldn’t be as violent or as unnerving as Scorsese. Scorsese has never done a single genre outside NY Crime, historical crime or catholic adjacent.

@Mag1cH0ur A truly brilliant film, done on a shoestring, with the Bavaria scenes done near Russell's home near Keswick. The best scene in the film was Mahler's conversion from Judaism to Catholicism at the hands of Cosima Wagner! youtu.be/1jjFsciRauU?si…

@R3TRO8OY Another Schofield by the sounds of it. All this just happened to occur during Tim Davie's last week as DG. Is it all connected, a new broom sweeps clean and all that or is it just a complete coincidence?

I don’t understand this Scott Mills scandal. He was investigated by police 10yrs ago over alleged offences 25+ years ago, but no action was taken and case was closed. Now he gets instantly fired over same thing? The BBC needs to explain why, surely?
