From Vision to Action: Uttar Pradesh’s Journey Towards Faecal Sludge and Septage Management Our new report captures how the Urban Development Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, has led the state’s transition from policy vision to on-ground implementation of faecal sludge and septage management across 56 towns, in partnership with CSE and other stakeholders. The report also documents the lessons from this journey, starting from policy development and infrastructure creation to operational challenges and service delivery improvements. It also highlights areas that require continued focus to ensure sustainable and citywide sanitation services. An Orientation Workshop on Water Sustainability in Rajasthan, organized with the support of Centre for Science and Environment and MNIT Jaipur, brought together experts and participants to discuss critical aspects of water management in rural areas. The workshop focused on learning from past water security interventions, understanding the current condition of ponds and traditional water bodies, and exploring ways to rejuvenate local water sources for long-term sustainability. Innovative approaches for making groundwater sustainable in desert districts, the use of GIS and satellite tools to identify potential recharge zones, and effective greywater management strategies to protect freshwater resources were also deliberated.
