Iran sees the attack on Qatar as a symmetrical move because the emirate is a loyal U.S. ally, allowing American military bases on its territory, bases from which numerous attacks against Iran have been carried out. Saudi Arabia is the nation which, through Mohammad bin Salman, is tightly bound to the U.S. and Israel. The attack on Iran’s gas facilities was carried out through Saudi airspace, so Iran’s response was, in such cases, entirely predictable. At the same time, Iran continued its attacks on Israel, this time reaching the southern port of Ashkelon, a strategic element of the country’s energy infrastructure.
