@JerodMcDaniel @therealgerlach @gavin_spoor What’s the best way for the younger guys trying to diversify to get into the cattle game? Feeders seem crazy expensive. Same with bred heifers. Pasture is incredibly hard to come by at least up here anyway.

@JerodMcDaniel Ground is “too good” to be pasture according to dad and grandpa. Only path for us is filling the feedlot back up. Not enough money to be able to afford the cattle without a loan. Young farmers loan is enticing for me but cattle on a loan in this market seems like a horrible idea.

How many farms are gonna add cattle, specifically cow/calf, to their business plans for 2026? I get the sense when people say they “getting” into cattle, they are saying they’re gonna be a stocker, farmer/feeder, or some variation thereof. I don’t think many want actual cows.

Any farm in the U.S.A. over the last 4 years could have sold their equipment, built fence, bought cows, and made bank.
