The IPL is worth $18.5 billion. Its players receive 18% of revenue. The @NBA gives its players 50%. Our first piece asks the question nobody in cricket wants to answer: are IPL players underpaid? Follow and subscribe to read the answer. #IPL #IPL2026 #cricket cricketsinsideedge.substack.com

@TheInside_Edge @SkyCricket @robkey612 @englandcricket "There's players that, at times, given the opportunity, will be irresponsible with alcohol. But that is a problem throughout the game and we need to evolve that." I understand that as: cricket's attitude to alcohol has to evolve. Not that England need to evolve *into* something.

Richard Gould says sacking Brendon McCullum after the Ashes would have been "the easy thing to do". McCullum, Rob Key and Ben Stokes all retain their positions. Do you agree with the decision?

@TeleCricket @willis_macp A lot of Rob Key's ideas are vague. He talks about balance between hard work and downtime, and about evolution. But what does any of it actually look like? More questions than answers, still.

@thecricketgully Perhaps players should be contracted to franchises, rather than their national teams? Cricket currently exists in a weird space with regards to contracts, with a player like Cameron Green earning more from @KKRiders than @CricketAus #KKR #IPL #IPL2026

@swildecricket The attitude of the current @englandcricket set-up has been entirely self-defeating. They need to work with, not against, the system and find ways to mitigate its problems.

Interesting article, also featuring discussion of candidates for the Head Selector role. But why is it that only high profile ex players working in the media are touted for this role? None of them work in franchise recruitment, which would be an equivalent skillset.

The PSL being played behind closed doors is a tremendous shame. Completely understand the logic behind the choice. But will hugely impact the quality of the broadcast. The fans are everything.

@faizanlakhani The governance of cricket is amateurish. This isn't how professional, top level sport should function. It doesn't happen in other sports, so why in cricket? @TheRealPCB @ICC

Players jumping leagues last minute for a few extra dollars is not just about PSL or IPL. PSL will be fine, PSL will go on, it doesn’t depend on individuals, but what message are these players sending? That contracts, commitments, and team trust mean nothing once a bigger cheque appears? Its a worrying sign. This can't be called professionalism. In fact, it is unchecked commercialism ruining sportsmanship. It is not about leagues, it is about credibility of players' commitments in sport. Every profession has accountability. You can’t just walk out of a job without following SOPs, why should franchises suffer broken combinations and disrupted plans because someone changed their mind for money? Cricket seriously need regulations: if you’ve signed for a window, you honor it or compensate the franchise you leave behind. Simple. Talent deserves reward, yes. But integrity should never be optional.
