You can be missing the mega stones for the Hoenn Starters, the Kalos starters, Mewtwo, Garchomp Z, Diancie, Zeraora and Baxcalibur and still get credit for completing it. You do need the other two Z stones and the Kanto/Lumiose starters.

Localization has gotten so bad that we now have to spread awareness about bad faith actors working as localizers in niche indie games. That’s insane. Before buying any game from Japan, you need to be aware of people translating things like “Konnichiwa” into "Destroy all chuds"

@kupoccino It's usually well after they got bored of it and into the point where they want to start hoarding OTHER crap instead. I had entire custom game cases for my cartridge games, but they took up too much space on the shelf. So the games stayed, but the cases (aside from OEM) are gone.

i have seen firsthand how people get rid of their entire collection of something when they get bored of it. it's really scary. why did you buy all that in the first place

Just about 17 years ago, a couple coworkers and I decided to put a decommissioned Dell PowerEdge 2650 on the roof. Why? Because we were curious, and it was to become scrap metal. We did absolutely nothing to weatherproof it, beyond setting it on two bricks, facing it away from the prevailing wind, putting a drip loop in the cabling, and using fiber networking so we wouldn't fry anything if it got zapped. Ran Linux, plotting its own sensor data via ipmitool, and presenting it via a web page served from the box itself. We put load on it using SETI@Home. It ran for about two months up there, even surviving 6" of snow, until a really gnarly thunderstorm drove water into the SCSI backplane and it shorted out. Continued running for a few more weeks, though, until not being able to write to disk was finally too much. Did not come back from a power cycle. Its hostname was Tevye, of course.

@GenePark Like, I can think of one instance (not counting recent Microsoft physical releases that were essentially just download codes on a bluray) where a game was straight up unplayable without a major day one patch. And it's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5, from 11 years ago.

@GenePark I think MAYBE this idea comes from people assuming that day one patches are always mandatory? A lot of games do have day one patches these days, but the games still typically ship in a 100% playable (albeit maybe a bit buggier than intended) state.

@HiroesX81 @NintyPrime Well, yeah. Building your own roster of games and characters is a lot better than just making a place for other people to build their own roster of games and characters. The latter requires other people to be consistent, while the former requires YOU to be consistent.

It’s because PlayStation was reliant upon third parties. This meant people owned one for a massive variety of games and reasons. But most of us who played Nintendo, can name the same 15 games we played on NES, SNES, N64, and GameCube. So while PlayStation sold way more units, on the Nintendo side we had a larger contingent of people with a unified experience. This held brand recognition strongly and is why many look back on that era with a louder contingent sharing in the nostalgia. It was a more shared experience.
