He “made the mistakes magic”!
Hair Metal Messiah@HairMtlMessiah

Hair Metal Messiah pays tribute, with a heavy heart, to Ace Frehley. I’m at a loss! There are guitar gods… and then there’s Ace Frehley — the cosmic misfit who crash-landed into rock ’n’ roll and made it sound like the universe itself was learning to party. He wasn’t just the “Spaceman” from KISS; he was the soul of every riff that made a kid pick up a six-string and dream of shooting stars and smoke bombs. Ace didn’t play guitar — he communed with it. His Les Paul didn’t just scream, it laughed, it wept, it spoke fluent rebellion. From “Shock Me” to “Cold Gin,” every note was electric honesty — sloppy, swaggering, and alive in a way perfection could never be. The man turned feedback into art and mistakes into magic. He wasn’t trained. He wasn’t polished. He was Ace. That was the point. When he peeled off that “Shock Me” solo in 1977, he didn’t just plug in — he recharged rock’s entire heart. You could feel it in the bleachers, the garages, the bedrooms where teenagers stared at KISS posters and thought, “That’s gonna be me someday.” And for a whole generation, it was. Ace Frehley was the human side of KISS — the grin under the greasepaint, the Bronx kid who never forgot how to laugh at fame even as it swallowed him whole. While the others fought for control, Ace fought to keep the music fun. The swagger, the swing, the danger — he was the beating heart that made KISS more than a brand. When he walked away, he didn’t vanish — he blasted off. His 1978 solo album was pure rock ’n’ roll DNA — “Rip It Out,” “New York Groove,” “Snow Blind.” He proved he didn’t need the stage pyros or the platform boots — just a guitar, a Marshall stack, and that crooked Ace smile that said, “Yeah, I’m still the coolest motherf***er in the room.” Ace didn’t just influence guitarists. He influenced attitudes. He taught us that you could be weird, wasted, wired, and still shine. That confidence and chaos could coexist — and that you didn’t have to be perfect to be immortal. We laughed with him. We worried about him. We forgave him. And we loved him — because deep down, Ace was us: the kid who made it out, who never took himself too seriously, who chased every riff like it might be his last. Now the amps are quiet, the smoke’s cleared, and somewhere out past Orion, a Gibson Les Paul is echoing through the stars. The Spaceman’s finally home. Rest easy, Ace. You left Earth louder, brighter, and cooler than you found it. And every time a kid plugs in that first guitar, somewhere… your laugh comes through the amp. 🚀💫 “Shock me one more time, brother” #Kiss #HairMetalMessiah @KISSopolis @Drlove669 @naokiss @FreddieH73 @NatesHiddenGems @VintageRockN_85 @juliewi50263850 @BerserkerBill @bikertrash68 @LayneeRN17 @LFCMFighter @reelingblazejoe @JGordonBramer @JenniferSi33633 @GTAK_Weld @CHillTennis90 @TomsPedalDemos @realizzypresley @jackybambam933 @HBBasement @ColdasBryyyce @0oWatches @punt_rd @Rockdecades @JosephGBarlow spotify.link/Fnw8TYaywXb

Happy Birthday to my friend since Stonehill College in 1991. The guy I admire more than anyone. There is no one I’d rather spend this much time with (except Nelly Korda 😍) than you buddy! Happy Birthday partner and thank you for all that you do for #1 KISS Podcast. Z

@wheresdrago I never liked the censored logo as a kid and was disappointed if it was the only option available to me. Only recently have I grown fond of it. Now I have the urge to complete the set.

@ThomDust Man, what a haul! In the 1980s the German logo was the most common you could get in the regular shops. When I started digging into the back catalogue for original releases I gave the majority of these versions away. Or, in some cases, cut up for the artwork. 😩😅
