Happy Tacobotic Tuesday Robotic and X fam Galbot just dropped LATENT, a system out of Tsinghua University that teaches a Unitree G1 humanoid to play tennis using only fragments of imperfect human motion data rather than clean, match quality recordings, and the robot can now hold multi shot rallies with a human opponent, reading incoming balls and returning them to targeted court locations with both forehand and backhand strokes. The wild part is that the lead researcher said on day one of real world testing it couldn't return a single ball he served, and by the final day of the project he couldn't beat it anymore.
