@newryhurler1 @lemallon Croke Park capacity was 63k in the 1970s. Football semi finals always sold out in the 1970s and 1980s.

50 years ago, every GAA trophy was won by an Irish team. In 50 years time, we'll have GAA facilities on par with the best sporting facilities in the world, and every GAA trophy will still be won by an Irish team. What's the end game?

Dublin GAA county board has secured approval for the development of a major new state-of-the-art training facility in south Dublin, despite objections from local residents. the42.ie/6966221t

@MWCrispyRoll @pogmogoal Reality is most normal functioning people just watch any oul sport in any oul venue. Yeah, you can enjoy one over another but life's too short to be hating other sports!

@MWCrispyRoll @pogmogoal Time will tell but if Dlk or Drog ever need a decent stadium for some bigger games, I doubt if Louth GAA will turn down the chance to take their money! Also be interesting to see if any of the hardline soccer fans would row back on vowing never to set foot in a GAA ground!

Need Jim Thwaites in a match day squad yesterday. I know I’m not wrong on this one. He’s far superior to Fletcher and I don’t like comparing young players, but it has to be said man. The agility out of breaks & two footed technique. It’s night and day🩸x.com/UtdAnalystVids…

Been debating whether to do this for a good 6 months now and had a few people suggest it..So here goes. Entirely up to you. You're all top bastard Reds regardless, just for following a bloke who puts robot voices and songs over footy highlights Thanks x buymeacoffee.com/Alternativemufc

@DirtyFootbaIIer Saw a kid do that one day in an under 18 game. His team were 8 or 9 goals up at the time. Unfortunately, he didn't make it back to the half way line for the restart!

Delighted to hear that an old episode of Call My Bluff I appeared on as a panellist in 1981 is being shown tonight — BBC Four at 9pm. It was always such a joy to do and a real honour to be asked. Loved dear Frank Muir and Arthur Marshall. Tune in if you fancy a bit of vintage wordplay and jollity!

@SmallerFishGAA Hmm. Fenno could be excused a wry smile tonight. Shafted after getting them to the final and look at them now!

Portlaoise out. Beaten by 9 and should have been worse Brutal stuff. Can't defend, can't attack and can't kick the ball out.

@brunojesusbasto @Plainofherbs Grow the game? Never doubt this. They are quite happy to have hurling in 7 or 8, 9 at a push, counties. They have no interest in whether Offaly or Kerry or Laois or Antrim ever puck a ball again.

@Plainofherbs So, hurling snobbery isn’t a modern day phenomenon then. Great to see how the elite have helped ‘grow the game’ in the intervening 41 years.

Harsh words for Offaly in the Irish Independent in the aftermath of the 1984 All-Ireland final. Because a traditional hurling county would never ruin a great occasion by underperforming in a final, would they? Would they?

Is there any thing worse in modern GAA than the crowd shot after a point, so you can see a pre-planned couple celebrating into the lens as if having passion and fun. I'd mandate hooliganism at this point to stop it. (Other than every ex player saying learnings.)*

@DanMulhall @drivetimerte 'Skort'. Dreadful made up word and dreadful attitude by GAA - like making County camogie and 'ladies football' players choose between the 'codes' by fixing matches on the same day. Utterly tone deaf.

Listening to @drivetimerte discussion of the ‘skorts’ controversy. Can anyone tell me what the argument is in favour of requiring camogie players to wear ‘skorts’?

@SmallerFishGAA The Tommy Durnin transfers stink much more than any transfer to any Dublin club ever did. Leaves a junior club in Louth to play the minimum two years in Monaghan before transferring back to the senior champions in Louth.

Jarlath Burns "I think we should be introducing rules to prevent players who transfer to Dublin from going to a Division One club" I'm not being cocky but a lot of common sense ideas I have get traction months & years later. Refreshing to have a president like Jarlath Ps before you say it I joined Parnells when they were division 2 😀 (and I should never have been allowed join them as I lived on Baggot street)
