And let’s be clear, colleges support almost all 16 year olds who have struggled in school & who have not got good GCSE results - a group who are disproportionately from disadvantaged homes, with poverty a major cause of under-achievement 1/2

All true @PeterStefanovi2 But are you aware of the £10k pay gap between school teachers and college lecturers. No lie, that figure is shocking, unjustified & direct result of last government’s austerity years. Can you shout about that please? Happy to talk

@AoCDavidH @JonColes01 Urgent action required on pay in FE. I've worked in both FE and secondary schools, and the best teaching I've seen has been in FE. The entire funding system requires serious reform. I trained in FE and witnessed the carnage of funding cuts first hand. Time for change.

Important from @JonColes01 For FE colleges, very similar position to schools. On average, colleges can ‘afford’ maybe 1.5% pay award, but median lecturer pay is £10k behind median school teacher pay & high numbers in colleges on national living wage puts pressure on budgets 1/9

STRB 5.5% award a major surprise (assuming true) as last govt went so hard on affordability. Can't remember pay review bodies diverging so sharply from govt steers on affordability. This is more difficult for new govt than is being recognised. 1/n
