As the Regents wrote: "The @UofCalifornia system is one of the most rigorous, vibrant, & diverse academic institutions in the world. That is due in no small part to the talent, experience, & contributions of the University’s approx. 4,000 undocumented students." 3/

Per the @UofCalifornia Regents’ answer: “Not only do undocumented students deserve equal educational employment opportunities, CA deserves to benefit from the educational and professional training that paid student employment would provide these talented students." 2/

So excited to see support for our lawsuit to end discrimination in student employment based on immigration status from more than _170_ professors across UC. Now it's up to the CA SCOTUS to take our case!! (or direct the Court of Appeals to take it).

NEW: 170+ @UofCalifornia professors, CA educators’ unions, & UC grad student leaders are coming forward this week to continue to support an end to UC discrimination against undocumented students. 🧵

A decision foreclosing re-parole will have devastating consequences. We’ll continue to defend CHNV in court. We also call on the Admin to act with the same courage & compassion it showed when it started this program 2 yrs ago by reversing course on this change to the FAQ. /end

CHNV program beneficiaries have become integral members of our communities – sharing dinner tables with loved ones, supporting their neighbors, joining churches, & contributing to our economy. 10/

Venezuela & Haiti have level 4/4 travel advisories and Nicaragua’s is at a level 3—the same they were when program was announced. Does the Admin really believe these ~193k people should buy one-way tickets to the very same places it tells the rest of us not to even visit? 9/

Still, for those who *are* impacted, this update is cruel and pointless. When the Admin started this program 2 years ago, it was out of recognition of the severe instability in these 4 countries. By State Dept’s own metrics, conditions have hardly changed. 8/

But as we know, no program is one-size-fits-all. Some beneficiaries may not need re-parole or any other pathway to longer status at all bc they may already intend to leave once their parole expires. 7/

Bottom line: The @JoeBiden admin’s update to the CHNV FAQ indicating program beneficiaries may not apply for re-parole could leave nearly 200k people from unsafe countries in limbo & without a clear path forward. A 🧵 to break it down ⬇️
Camilo Montoya-Galvez@camiloreports

The Biden administration will not extend the 2-year immigration parole status of Venezuelans or any migrant allowed into the U.S. via the CHNV sponsor policy, @USCIS announces, confirming our reporting. “There is no re-parole process under any of the CHNV parole processes.”

Nicaraguan parolees will be the most impacted. They don’t have TPS or a CAA-like option, so those who seek to remain in the U.S., like the others who don’t qualify for TPS, would only be able to do so if they qualify through other routes, like family petitions or asylum. 6/
