I knew a good Catholic gentleman, sadly gone. He shared a black & white pic with me from his tour in Vietnam. He & other soldiers attending Mass outdoors, the priest (facing ad orientem), the tailgate of the military vehicle, the altar. Very moving, the image has remained with me ever-after.

Dear Diary:
Today is the day of a huge Catholic event that I’ve been asked to attend. I’ve been hearing and seeing a lot of criticism, defamation, ridicule and hate directed towards the people running it, speaking at it and attending it. I’ve heard the term spiritual battle being used and I can say that I’ve been experiencing seriously disturbing events within the last 12 hours. I fully expect this to continue and increase throughout the day. I’m not going into detail but there are things happening to my family back home and to myself here in DC. It’s even gotten to the point that I was asked to deny Christ and convert to Islam. This fight needs serious prayer.
