We’re throwing away billions in tax revenue, world-class expertise, energy security and competitiveness. Full lifecycle carbon footprint? Aggregate UK imports (Norway pipeline + US/Qatar LNG etc.) have a similar or higher footprint than our own domestic production. We’re not saving the planet – we’re offshoring emissions while gutting a strategic industry. Every other country with oil & gas is doubling down to keep energy cheap, protect jobs and stay competitive in manufacturing. This CO2 ideology is madness. Atmospheric levels today are two or three times lower than where they’ve been for much of our planet’s history – and life thrived. Very, very rarely political views can be used as a protected characteristic if they also align with philosophical belief which in turn can then indirectly come under religious belief which is definitely a protected characteristic. However it would take a brave and fearless judge to prosecute for discrimination on such an indirect relationship to a protected characteristic.
