Why has Bali become like this? Rent is 2-3x the price it was even 2 years ago. I just booked an Airbnb for $1,800/month. Everything looked good. It was a high price, but whatever. I sent a simple list of questions... WiFi, cleaning, noise and laundry. 24 hours and no reply. It took 3 follow-ups and threatening with cancelling my booking to get them to answer. (after which they did so in about 30 seconds) At which point I cancelled anyway because if this is how you communicate pre-booking, imagine when there's an issue with the A/C during rental. But this wasn't an isolated incident. Landlords in Bali obviously have insane supply > demand leverage due to the overwhelming amount of tourism. Which is also obviously contributing to the higher prices, worsening pollution, and ridiculous traffic. The elevator on Nusa Penida is the epitome of it all. (if you don't know about it, look it up, you will be shocked) I wish Bali was like it used to be, but now I'm really put off visiting again. Sad because I wanted to visit my friends. Plans are now cancelled.
