@richimedhurst How many ships have been intercepted and forced to turn back? You are exaggerating the importance of this operation.

They are saying in the clearest language possible: we're here to screw with China and Russia's trade. It's a blockade, and a threat, and pretending it isn't is to bury one's head in the sand. It's not like they didn't give everyone clues w/ what they did in Venezuela and Iran.

Word for word NATO's Arctic Security Brief: “China’s interest in the Arctic is also growing, as Beijing seeks to gain access to energy, critical minerals and sea lines of communication. Furthermore, increased Russia-China cooperation has strategic and operational implications for NATO’s deterrence and defence posture in the region.”
Richard Medhurst@richimedhurst

NATO established “Operation Arctic Sentry” in February, openly stating the goal is to sever Beijing’s “access to energy, critical minerals”, and disrupt trade with Russia. It’s an embargo. This explains why Trump is so interested in Greenland and Canada, and why the Royal Navy deployed a carrier strike group last month to the Greenland-Iceland-UK (GIUK) corridor — and again this week. richardmedhurst.substack.com/p/how-the-us-p…

The marches (so-called 'hate marches') are marches that are protests directed at a specific country in a specific place. If people call them 'hate marches' they're conflating the protests about that specific place with an alleged hate of a whole people or identified group.

A minimum wage of £15 would end my coffee shop, it would have to close, as would many other businesses. I’ll explain for the economically illiterate. Staff costs are currently half our costs, a £15 minimum wage is actually more than £15 an hour for the company, because you have to add: - 12.07% holiday - Sick pay - Maternity pay if and when required - National insurance - Pension contributions These costs would mean the shop loses money because remember, energy costs are up, rates are up, regulations are up. Now you can pass these costs onto the consumer - that would mean charging a lot more for coffee, people won’t pay it. The likes of Starbucks and Costa can, because they have economies of scale. The independent doesn’t. Now the little socialist will say well this is your fault, if you can’t run a business that can afford to pay its staff properly, but the little socialist has never run a business and does not understand the dynamics. Now I could pay some staff off and fill those hours myself or reduce us to one staff member during certain periods - but this proves the point that a minimum wage costs jobs. There was a time when these jobs were done by kids, perhaps on the weekend, paid a lower wage, no holiday and no silly employment rights. Perhaps they were even paid cash. The dynamic worked and small businesses like this could operate. It was also a great first job. Sadly now it isn’t worth employing entitlement youngsters at this level of pay. So alas, I don’t need the stress, the business would close, a number of jobs would be lost. Economics is about understanding these dynamics, no vibes. The cost of living is not solved through passing on inflation to the business, it is solved by ending high inflation and creating prosperity. This is what socialists don’t understand, they can’t create prosperity, they can only destroy it.

The Greens will raise the minimum wage to £15 for all workers 💪

@Whatislif3 @MichaelRosenYes You mean apart from the people chanting for the global murdering of Jews? Or the ones who want the world’s only Jewish state to be “smashed”? Or maybe the ones who couldn’t care less about any of the awful world events other than those where Jews can be accused of responsibility?

@MichaelRosenYes The hate marches are full of antisemites, under their new guise of “anti Zionists” (though many don’t even bother with the guise). Standing with them are others, who are deluded and have digested malign propaganda sponsored by Iran, Russia and China.

@richimedhurst Russia exports 4.5 mb/day, 135 mb/month so a loss of 400 kb/month is only 0.3%. So a pin prick.

@richimedhurst But how effective are these attacks? How much has output decreased? Maybe looks damaging but in reality a pin prick.

Chart I built mapping the strikes on Russian refineries, tankers, export hubs. You can clearly see a surge that coincides with the US blockades of Venezuela and Iran. Data I sourced from OPEC shows Russia missed their quota by 400k barrels this month -- the most violent so far.

A few years ago, I wanted to improve my fitness so I explored a local running club. A leg injury I’ve had since I was young means I can’t run fast. The club was full of ultra-competitive dickheads (like James) who made me feel as welcome as a drag queen at an LGB Alliance disco.

@leo_leo_X @talentedfergal Given the number of parkruns I have marshalled at I have never seen competitive women behave appallingly. Statistically no-one can say it never happen. But based on my sample size which runs into many thousands (so statistically significant) I have never seen it. Have you ?

Trying to segregate, alienate, or humiliate trans women at a park run is a cruel, callous and unnecessary thing to do.

@Whatislif3 @Heccles94 But you are advocating for people who take it competitively to not be allowed to run. You want to ban runners from ParkRUN. 🤣. Imagine if I'd have said I think trans people shouldn't be allowed to run? (Not that I would think that because I'm not allowed about myself).

@kalsjdhflkjsa @Heccles94 Nonsense, I have already stated the whole ethos of a park run is as a non-competitive event. Of course some individuals will act as though it is a competition, that cannot be avoided. They are not excluded from taking part.

No. I'm arguing that your idea of making it inclusive excludes people who want to run it for it's competative element. How many trans people are at an average parkrun vs your idea of "elite" runners. Trans people are allowed to compete in park run (despite what people on twitter are saying) but you are saying competative runners aren't?

@kalsjdhflkjsa @Heccles94 Not relevant because my view is that anyone of any ability can take part in a park run. My turn, what outcome would you like to see? Do you want all categories removed for the reported times?

@kalsjdhflkjsa @Heccles94 Now that's a very odd interpretation of what I have said. If an elite runner wishes to take part they are welcome but need to appreciate park runs are not a competitive event.
