One day the Canucks will win the cup. I just hope it's in my lifetime. Also interested in other sports (Sea...Hawks!) and politics

@CHEK_News This is when our democracy does not work. People overwhelmingly don’t want these data centres in their communities, but gov’ts are going to allow them anyway. The ruling class gets what they want again (money) and the rest of us pay the price with water and electricity scarcity

Not that Canadians haven't been fundamentally anti-indigenous this whole time (it's literally foundational to being a Canadian) but there is an increase in anti-indigenous sentiment right now. Oppose it every chance you get. Never give them an inch.

@AdamZivo Is that the drivel you write in your rag? You should think about what you’re advocating, Canada’s transportation routes go through First Nation communities!

I would've loved to have learned local languages in school, but English and French were my only options. Preservation and active teaching of Indigenous languages should be a priority for all of us, but instead, Canada chooses to continue to encourage their erasure.
Scott Robertson@sarobertson_

Outgoing Governor General Mary Simon: "We know that Indigenous languages are not part of the Official Languages Act, but to me they are just as important as English and French ... every day there are languages across the country that are being lost. To me that's not something we should just ignore. I think we need to do more for Indigenous languages."

Land acknowledgements are bullshit and fundamentally about normalizing blood-and-soil nationalism. They pretend that North America rightfully belongs to one ethnicity, and that all other peoples, lacking an ill-defined “spiritual” connection to the continent, should perpetually be “grateful” for the “opportunity” to exist here. If European nations demanded that all non-Europeans regularly express gratitude for living on “traditionally European lands,” progressives would rightfully see this as unjust. Yet, they abandon their principles when it comes to Indigenous land acknowledgements because they are either too stupid, or too intellectually unprincipled, to see the contradiction here. Land acknowledgements should be purged from our institutions, and, to this end, no self-respecting conservative should perform them. The obvious exception would be at events that specifically concern the Indigenous community, and only if an acknowledgement uses wording that simply states historical facts without establishing a racial hierarchy of citizen legitimacy.

@AntonioTweets2 @WBrettWilson Look at this guy making sh*t up. Harper inherited a surplus, but ran deficits every year he was in office. Don’t believe me? Look it up.

In 2015, under the last Conservative government, Canada had a balanced budget, a billion dollar surplus, the strongest economy in the G7, with the largest and most prosperous middle class in the world. Then the Liberals were elected. 11 years later, Canada now has the highest household debt, the most unaffordable housing, the lowest investment per worker, the second worst productivity, and the second highest unemployment in the G7. The direct result of a decade of Liberal policies.

@PierrePoilievre @WBrettWilson Greased back hair and a selfie stick. Nice look for leader of the official opposition. You know why some Canadians got heavy metal poisoning? Their wells were poisoned by mining waste because the projects didn’t have environmental reviews. People before profits. Always.

A striking figure by Andrew Fanning, showing cumulative extinctions from 1500 to 2025, against the numbers that would be expected naturally over this period, and against what would be consistent with the planetary boundary.

Thailand is one of the first ag countries to enter a planting season since the Iran war. We went to document the impact of supply shocks to fuel/fertilizer — It was worse than I anticipated. Farmers are leaving huge tracts of land barren bc they can’t afford to plant.

“This is what a country looks like if you teach people their culture is garbage and they should hate themselves." Exactly. This is what Canada did with First Nations under the Indian Act and residential schools for the past 150 years. White people aren’t an oppressed group here.
