Magic itself is horrible to watch, physical MTGO Arena doesn’t matter. Not the fault of the game, wasn’t designed with it in mind, but to the extent there have been success stories its been something that you can have the sound on in the background while you do something else.

My 2 cents on how to Interact with judges at Magic events. First off, don’t be afraid to call a judge. Most of my judge calls (~80%) are to clarify the oracle text of a foreign card or to ask a rules question, even when I’m about 90% sure I know how it works. On average, I call a judge every three rounds of Magic. Second, and perhaps most important: Please, and I beg you, don’t be one of those people who yell so loudly that everyone within hearing distance goes deaf. That’s obnoxious and I promise everyone hates you. Just raise your hand - the judge will eventually find you. Take time to gather your thoughts and note the time when you stopped playing. Also, having extra time to think about the board state never hurt anyone. When explaining the situation to a judge, be clear and concise. Above all, NEVER LIE, and never change your story. If you’re unsure, say “I’m not sure” or “I’m not confident.” Usually, one player explains the situation, and then the other does the same. I recommend not interrupting your opponent, even if you disagree with something. It creates confusion, which is not what you want. Try not to get upset if you think your opponent is lying or misrepresenting things. The truth usually comes out, and sometimes people just have a different perspective on the same situation. This happens in every area of life - ask my wife. Appeal often! I appeal every time I disagree with the floor judge or if they don’t seem totally confident. I’d say I appeal the majority of my non-oracle card text judge calls. Head judges are more experienced and, at least in the past, they used to have the ability to bend the rulebook and follow common sense. Don’t worry about offending the floor judge. Everyone’s goal is the same: to have a fair game played within the rules. Magic rules are complex, and we all make mistakes. Finally, when the judge call is done, ask for a time extension and thank the judge. Always be kind and polite. Judging is hard, and it’s not a job I would want to do. Unlike what I often read on this app, judges aren’t mean cops. They’re there to help the players, and they’re good people. Thank you, judges. 🙏 Let me know if I’ve missed anything ❤️
