The physicality that made this game great is being refereed out of existence by officials who know the rulebook better than they know the rhythm of a match. Anthony Taylor didn’t manage this game, he strangled it. The tone was lost the moment he brandished a booking inside five minutes. From that point on, everything became theatre, not football.
