The alignment between Rigathi Gachagua and Uhuru Kenyatta has quietly blown up President Ruto ’s Mt Kenya strategy. And many people still don’t see it. Ruto’s entire 2022 victory rested on one fact: Mt Kenya delivered a decisive bloc. Going forward, his plan wasn't to dominate but just retain 30-40% from Mt Kenya. That was the safety net. That safety net is now gone. Gachagua controls grassroots mobilization structures. Uhuru controls legacy influence + voter memory. As well for Uhuru, once unpopular, now looks better by comparison, and age has softened his image. Together, they don’t need 100%, They just need to deny Ruto stability. And in Kenyan elections, once your base becomes uncertain, You are already in trouble. Now Ruto is staring at a much harder path: Rift Valley + Nyanza + scattered votes in Western, North Eastern... not enough to comfortably win. This is starting to resemble 2007-style politics, except this time, he lacks crucial blocs like Kamba votes, plus he's not as influential as Raila Odinga was. Let’s not forget: Ruto won in 2022 by a thin margin, largely powered by Mt Kenya. Outside of that, much of his support came from restless youth voters. If Mt Kenya shifts even slightly as it is, the entire equation flips. For the opposition, the path is clear but urgent: Western Kenya + Coast. If they push those regions to even 45% turnout in their favor, Ruto’s path becomes extremely narrow. And one more thing people are ignoring: If Kithure Kindiki doesn’t end up as Deputy President, even Embu becomes shaky ground. The famous “divide and rule” in Mt Kenya? It might have just failed. 2027 won’t be what many think.
