@icanvardar I think it definitely is. They just lack the tools that we have. It’s natural that software development gets these tools first.

@ivanburazin So what happens when you hit a complex problem the AI is stuck with fixing?

A former PM at Meta recently posted: "If you're still using an IDE, you'll be laid off next" Aggressive? A bit, yeah. It is, however, more directionally correct than rage bait. Half our engineers still use IDEs (but with Claude Code running inside). The others don't use them at all. Just agents and orchestration. IDEs aren't dead yet, but they're about to be.

@jonallie Awesome. Thanks for the tips. My workflow is close but not quite the same, so it’ll be a definite improvement.

@_belioff Not in parallel, but something I probably should have included is that I try to keep sessions "short", and generally restart the agent after each logical chunk in order to benefit from a fresh context window

For engineers that are struggling to use (or see the value in) agent assisted coding, give this a try: 1. Pick a domain and language that you know really well. You should be confident that you could implement a good version of whatever you want to build, given enough time. 2. Write a design document (with the same care that you would for a team of humans). Include things like tech choices and invariants. 3. Ignore people talking about one-shot prompting, agent swarms, etc, and start by telling the agent to read your doc and confirm its understanding. 4. Ask the agent to make an implementation plan, decompose the plan into work items and record them (I use a local issue tracker.. separate post) 5. Read every diff. Correct and critique the agent's work as if you were mentoring a junior developer. For senior engineers, this isn't that much different than what you probably do anyway, except that the agent is always available, faster at typing, and happy to do painful refactors without complaint.

@robinebers Its good to see voice of reason. I've had big successes with plan mode and steering it to where I would like it to be, but I also read the plans.

skill issue plan mode in some harnesses (like cursor) does significantly more work before it comes to conclusions don't believe anyone that claims things just because it works for them peter is cool and he does a lot for this industry but he also famously said he doesn't do PRs and code reviews take everything everyone says with a huge grain of salt especially when it's written in such an aggressive way
Peter Steinberger 🦞@steipete

I never use plan mode. The main reason this was added to codex is for claude-pilled people who struggle with changing their habits. just talk with your agent.

@MelkeyDev Gotta love how we now automatically assume hand-crafted code before AI didn't cause bloat or tech debt. And no, Im not defending AI, its just hilarious to read such comments.

AI slop is modern tech debt. If you start your project with AI, you will end up with slop. But I have also seen AI struggle to keep best practices in existing codebases, with good structure.

@robinebers Hi Robin. I primarily use Codex, however, I find it a bit lacking for UI work. How do you improve your workflow in that regards using Codex?

@asidorenko_ While this is a nice feature, I get a feeling that code review can always report back problems no matter how many times you run it. This tools saves you tons of time on implementation already, the least you can do is review the code yourself.

Dubai looking alot like Kyiv tonight as US Embassy is hit by drones. Zero air defenses. Ukrainians would've been out on roof tops with rifles shooting that thing down, out in the suburbs.
