Devaluing the dollar and unlimited government backstop of college debt lead to soaring financial costs. Plus AI/Video have made access to learning very cost effective.

Literacy. If the oligarchs have their way, the children of the very rich will have human teachers, physical textbooks, handwritten assignments, phoneless schools. Everyone else will have chromebooks, malfunctioning AI tutors and screen addiction.

When I was in high school they had us read something by Steinbeck. Was it The Grapes of Wrath, about courage and dignity? Was it the rousing and delightful Cannery Row? No. They made us read Steinbeck's The Pearl, a gloomy and horrible tale about a kid dying. F*ck you lady English teacher. Is it not okay for high school kids to read stuff which is uplifting? I know their brains aren't yet developed, but that, to me, is a really good reason to let them read stuff that will wire them to LIKE books. The Pearl made me never again want to read anything by Steinbeck. The Great Gatsby made me never want to read anything by Fitzgerald. I kept reading because I had been hooked on it as an 8 year old, but I learned pretty fast that every require reading in high school sucked donkey goober. Look - let the kids read Ivanhoe or Wind in the Willows or Penrod as high school kids. THEN, when they get older they may choose to dabble in the depressing crap you teachers had shoveled into your heads in college. But please let them learn to enjoy reading. I'm looking at crap like YOU Bridge to Terabithia. I've shown an image of a super fun book for teens.

First time we went,not a soul.Second time-your typical rich Karens and Darens with their brats, and hippies.Our tiny cabin was surrounded by tents.There was a woman who was complaining how there were no malls there 🤦

The problems of white people born in the United States are: - Only speak English - Don't integrate into societies they invade - Anti intellectual attitude - Lazy and entitled - Low IQ There are exceptions, but in general you can't build a country with these people in it.

@notcapnamerica My greatgrandparents,my grandparents had farms. They worked those farms themselves. Just them and their kids (who also had to go to school, look after their siblings,and who became doctors and teachers). They didn't have any help or hired people.

@SketchesbyBoze I worked as a volunteer with local school kids. When they had their "stations", they would turn on their iPads and used the function "read the text". So the computer would read the text to them.

This is profoundly disturbing. When I was young we had the DEAR program (Drop Everything And Read) where kids would read a book of their choosing for half an hour in the middle of class. How are they ever going to acquire literacy if they don’t even read in SCHOOL?

@0Beanie05923291 What does it have to do with learning?🤦Do you know that there are kids who have no jackets for winter or that their moms don't care to the point that those kids have no clean clothes and they actually smell?

My school district has washers and dryers in many schools, a clothing assistance program that provides a wide range of items for students and adults, barber shops in a few schools, school-based eye and dental exams, and hundreds of mental health practitioners throughout. None of these services have helped improve student learning since their inception. Nearly 2/3 of the almost 100,000 can’t read proficiently. What my district (and many others) needs to do is stop trying to solve every societal problem and focus on teaching students.

@SofterEchoes @nguyenhdi Agree. But just someone dislikes the book doesn't make them illiterate. I absolutely hated the book. As much as I hated "The Mill on the Floss". You are not supposed to like everything.

@ErnieBrownII I disagree.One of the reasons why we had trouble selling our house is the abundance of new constructions.In our very small town those new houses grew like mushrooms.They were crappy but new and cheaper.So not sure what u r talking about.
