@EditorMark Of course, wouldn't it be nice to own a print copy of the most recent printing of the American Heritage Dictionary? It just came out last week!

The 2018 update of the Fifth Edition comes out today! It's the 50 Anniversary printing of the American Heritage Dictionary. Thousands of revisions have been made *in print* since the publication of the Fifth Edition in 2011. (More details in comments!) ISBN: 978-1328841698

@EditorMark @APStylebook Interestingly, we've shown it solid since A1 in 1969. (Possibly the citations in the Brown concordance in the 60s favored the solid form.) We'll look into adding the hyphenated form at least as a variant. Thanks for the tip!

@keithwinstein Very good catch; thank you! We will re-record the pronunciation for the next update. (We have a way of tracking this, but this word fell through the cracks.)

.@ahdictionary The pronunciation and audio sample on "quinoa" (ahdictionary.com/word/search.ht…) seem to be out of sync after your 1/2018 update. (I think the update removed the 3-syllable pronunciation, which had been first? BTW would be great to be able to see the changes over time!)

@stusheehan @barrymccarty @MerriamWebster @BryanAGarner From a politeness perspective, you probably should only correct others if they're receptive to being corrected and they've asked you to do so, if you're their elocution teacher, or if you're their employer and they do public speaking for your company.

Never stop learning. Recently I noticed that my accustomed pronunciation of "adjective" doesn't sound the "c." @MerriamWebster, says that's fine: "ˈa-jik-tiv also ˈa-jə-tiv."But @ahdictionary allows only "ăj' ĭk-tĭv," which our friend @BryanAGarner also prefers. Point well taken.
