After Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, some Polish bars and restaurants (those run by liberals) changed the name of one of the most popular Polish dishes, "pierogi ruskie" ("Russian" pierogi, according to liberals) to "pierogi ukraińskie" (Ukrainian pierogi), thinking that the original name had something to do with Russia 🤦🏻‍♂️ Funnily enough, the word "ruskie" in "pierogi ruskie" has its roots in Red Ruthenia, which is a historical region that covers part of today's Poland and part of today's Ukraine - and this has nothing to do with Russia! This dish has been called "pierogi ruskie" for decades and nobody batted an eye.
