@mfjlewis @batear In April 2024, he and his family randomly came in and sat in front of me at my usual parish in Alexandria, but they never made it their regular place.

I sort of want to give the designer a pass on this. As a designer for the Church I would find images like this - a pretty church in a beautiful landscape. But I'd never use them because they were either not Catholic or in Europe. Based on the response, I guess I chose wisely.

@batear I know where his kids go to school, at least the oldest one. I have heard what parish he goes to, but people keep that under wraps.

@mfjlewis I'm cynical. It's a con or sloppy. He was not a Methodist in Appalachia. He converts in a priory in Cincinnati, with a parish of same name. He lives in DC but no home parish identified in DMV. It should have occurred to the author.

@batear My guess is it may not have occurred to the designer (and subsequently the author and others who reviewed it). It would have occurred to me, so I refrained from using images like that. I think it's a good design concept, but there's no Catholic church that fits the bill.

Today, on Good Friday, we mark a day of sacrifice. Some New Yorkers will abstain from eating; others will spend hours without speaking. Faith, the Bible tells us, is belief in the things unseen. That belief is what will guide so many of our neighbors in solemn reflection and reverence. I wish all those observing Good Friday a blessed day of peace.

Friends, yesterday, I had the opportunity to offer a prayer at an Easter lunch hosted by the White House. What follows is the text of that invocaton: Heavenly Father, almighty and eternal God, provident Lord of history, we come before you today in an attitude of humble gratitude. We are thankful, Lord, for this opportunity to be together in fellowship, for the faith that unites us, and for the blessings of liberty that we enjoy as Americans. But we are grateful, above all, on this holiest week of the year, for the gift of your Son Jesus Christ, who is God from God, light from light, true God from true God; who is the Yes to all the promises made to Israel; who is the Lamb standing as though slain; who is the Alpha and the Omega; who is the Lion of Judah; who is the desire of the everlasting hills; and who is the Word made flesh. Father, you so loved the world that you sent your only Son that all who believe in him might not perish but might have eternal life. @GibsonWrites What he said/what others "heard" or understood are different matters. In USA w/ easy access to weapons, where messages are amplified on social media to folks who don't belong to his church, & in a climate of increased tolerance of violence, he was pastorally irresponsible. 1/2

Good stuff on taking religious language seriously but not literally. OTOH he was preaching to an audience of biblical literalists so who knows what the MAGAlonians heard.
