Believe it or not, given the choice this is not appealing to most casual baseball fans who do not already have a team of their own. This is not a blanket statement about all Yankees fans, nor all Mets fans (many of whom have their own similar psychosis about their fan identity)

People choose Mets fandom over Yankees fandom because being a Yankees fan is a chore. It has very little to do with class and much more to do with the fact that to be a Yankees fan you have to pretend to dislike the team’s performance while also acting better than everyone else

The Mets fan base doesn't really send its best, so I'll explain my point as plainly as I can: of course, there are NY native Mets fans. Many, many. But if you are a gentrifier laptop class individual, pure transplant, the odds are you are a Mets fan.

The longer that spoiled Yankee fans go without winning, the more deranged they become about the Mets. Especially the millennials that grew up watching the 96-00 teams. They can’t handle that the Mets are the big team now.

This tweet sums is up. Most people who come to NYC and adopts a team adopts the Mets because they're fun, wacky, and pleasant to root for even if they don't win. Yankee fans are 95% hereditary, they're miserable & boring outside of the World Series.

I'd rather be in the Championship with a fanbase that feels connected to and proud of the club, than in the Premier League with a stadium that certain factions of our fans don't feel welcome in or comfortable attending.
