Buried on page 306 of the Senate Finance text for the One Big Beautiful Bill is a carveout for big multinationals to pocket taxpayer dollars for their Chinese suppliers by grandfathering existing contracts. Big auto companies, General Motors in particular is pushing for this. This provision will send hundreds of millions of US taxpayer dollars to companies affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party through 2030, at the expense of American manufacturers that were just getting a break from anticompetitive behavior thanks to President Trump's America First trade policies. This sort of cronyism by the likes of Biden BFF Mary Barra at GM and her buddies at CATL, at American workers' expense, has no place in a MAGA economic agenda meant to put our prosperity and national security first I know the Republican Senators who are carrying the water on this. They need to fix this asap or they will be named. It’s disgusting.

Over the same period, gold's share has risen ~5 percentage points, to a record 6.8%. This trend accelerated in 2022, and since then, gold's share of Chinese reserves has doubled. Over this time, China has acquired ~200 tonnes of gold. Gold is more desired than ever.
