@omgsidewalks The reason I don't want to tax billionaires more is the same reason I don't want to tax anyone: because my parents raised me to believe that stealing other people's money is wrong.

They do not “hoard wealth”; they develop the enterprises they own, thereby increasing the value of their assets. These enterprises produce useful goods and services that you consume. Taxing them to the point where they can no longer “hoard” wealth means they can no longer develop their enterprises. As a result, production stays the same, no new tech is developed, prices never fall, and shortages may appear instead.

It starts with billionaires but doesn't end there. It's also a huge threat to anyone invested in the stock market. When you force these people who's wealth is not real and is only in the value of their companies they will be forced to sell and crater the stock market all will suffer far worse than healthcare for migrants. The error is in how people's wealth is measured. If your money is invested capital it is already being put to work for the benefit of humanity. You fkn idiots are on an austerity driven doom cycle with your communist thinking.

One thing I will never understand is why people don’t want to tax billionaires more. They would still be billionaires actually. You’re not really taking anything from them, just what they’re hoarding. They’ve profited off everyone else, so shouldn’t they give back?

I don't understand why America doesn't have a universal job guarantee. There are neighborhoods that need cleaning, food banks that need help, elderly people who need support. If someone wants to work, there should be a place they can go and contribute. We have endless needs and plenty of willing people.

Property taxes only serve one purpose. To give the government legal grounds to forcibly take your land/home from you. You can easily make every single thing you just listed a tax tied to something else. School? Make it the cost of enrollment. Police, fire, roads? Make it tied to vehicle registration. Having a tax levied against land serves no purpose other than to give the government a way to take it from you.
