Here’s how you can get started: 1️⃣ Open-source bounties & good first issues We’ve curated issues that are easy to start with while still being meaningful. The bounties range from $20 to $40 and go up to $100, depending on the contribution and impact. 2️⃣ Tech stack If you’re working with Java or Golang, this can be a great starter repository to gain hands-on experience with production-grade open-source code. 3️⃣ Join our Slack All conversations, discussions, and reviews happen on our Slack. This is where you’ll interact with maintainers and other contributors and get unblocked quickly. 4️⃣ Pick an issue & start contributing Go through the open issues, find the ones that match your skill set and interests, and start working on them. There’s no pressure just steady learning and shipping. 5️⃣ Share your PR on Slack Once you’ve raised a pull request, drop it on Slack. Our developers will review your work, guide you where needed, and help you improve. At the end of the day, Olake is all about open source, collaboration, and building in the open. I am paying anyone who knows how to use the right tech for this use case: I have hardware that can outcompete the MacMini, and the per-agent build cost is also much lower. I was once genuinely confused about open source. I contributed to two #GSoC organisations, spent weeks writing long proposals, and still faced rejection. Where to start? How to contribute? Is this even for me? If you’ve felt this, you’re not alone.

“I only got 2 minutes -- no worries won’t even take half of it." Can I pitch it?” That’s how I usually start. Attention spans are short these days, so when someone is standing at your booth, you don’t have time to warm up slowly. You need a hook that feels natural and keeps the conversation light and easy to follow. Across events, things keep changing. The booth location changes. The event changes. The crowd changes. But the core pitch stays the same for 400+ of them(counted once :) ) though sometimes revolve around the event . What really changes are the questions people ask and the level at which they want to understand things. Most people don’t want deep tech at first but clarity and quickly get what you’re building, why it matters. Keep the conversation minimal and service-level in the beginning. I always work with a diagram-first mindset .. don't got a board ? Heck etch things in the air. A lot of hand movements. I connect ideas using my hands while I talk this goes here, that sits on top, this flows into that. My hands and my words work together like one connected thing. While I’m explaining, I usually hand them a flyer. They’re looking at it, I’m talking, my hands are moving, and the idea starts to click without me over-explaining anything. After seeing 100s startups at an event, this helps people remember what you said. Let me catch an example here When I pitch @_olake I keep it simple. Biggest buzzword in tech? AI. Now how does AI work? Data. A lot of it. I sketch it in the air 🤏🏻 existing data and tables are already there, and on top of that you need an intelligent metadata layer, powered by @ApacheIceberg . This layer understands what the data looks like, how it’s structured, and how it keeps changing over time. Now the real question is: how do you do this at scale, when you’re dealing with petabytes of data? That’s where OLake comes in :) No deep dive but if there would be any it definitely would be now Short pitch. Clear story. Under two minutes. That’s how I do it.. works everytime
