If you don't police that which you own, the State will do it for you.

@Raulmac04 @SkyNews It is more likely to result in fines for the sellers who do not check for ID. So yes, EVERYONE will be ID'd when buying cigarettes.

@pmarca Which ones aren't? I'm continually amazed at the naivete exhibited by the investment class. How's it possible so many of you simply cannot see the deep and pervasive corruption across all society and government? Is it because optimism is a core requirement for financial success?

@NimkoAli What right has a govt got to "educate" anyone and why is it desirable? You sound like an imperialist telling native tribes how they should live and "civilising" them.I wonder what you'd do to people who take their children out of school if you had your way. Sterilise them perhaps?

Can we talk about Tyson Fury and his elder daughter: Thankfully she won’t be able to marry at 16 anymore, that’s a law me and Priti Patel changed. But she was taken out of school at 11, justified as “the traditional Traveller way”. Tradition does not override the law. The fact this can still happen, and even be glorified in this country, is deeply troubling. Girls in Traveller communities deserve the same protection and opportunities as every other girl.

Ed Miliband is right: the transition to net zero is the only way to protect the UK from a never-ending wave of international conflict driving up energy prices. Closing the Strait of Hormuz won’t push up the price of solar. Trump invading Greenland wouldn’t make wind more costly.

'This is about getting bills down for good' Energy Secretary Ed Miliband spoke to #BBCBreakfast about plans to weaken the link between electricity and volatile gas prices, which it says will better protect consumers from energy shocks triggered by international conflicts bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@martinmccluskey Dealing with companies like @BritishGas is a nightmare. They don’t listen to customers, they fob you off with half promises and lies and you can never get to speak to someone who will actually help. They conveniently destroy records so you are at a disadvantage when complaining.

Today we’re launching the final report of the Ofgem review. We’re making sure consumers are put first in the energy market. A stronger regulator will act as a consumer champion, focus on economic growth and prioritise net zero for the very first time.

@Ed_Miliband Thank you for sharing these despite the torrent of abuse you always seem to get. We need a mix of power sources, and this is a long game sadly. Nothing will magic bills down in the short term except if individuals simply use less electricity themselves. Otherwise we invest.

@AcademicAgent_X Has this not always just been short hand for "You sit at the bar for hours and listen to the regulars talk", but without the waiting? Similar to what Aragorn does at the Prancing Pony. A communicative bartender would know where the immediate blue collar employment could be found

I’ve met Harry Kane’s wife dozens of times in CRPGs over the years, usually at the tavern. You know IRL, I’ve never paid for a drink and “received rumours”, this only happens in computer games.

Is it right that the British public be asked to go on welcoming new arrivals, if those people or their descendants later use their place in the national family to agitate for special economic benefits from Britain for themselves or their countries of origin?

@Babygravy9 The CQC brought in measures that determined how many staff a care home MUST employ determined by number of residents and their needs. This made most local smaller homes unable to pay sufficient wages for the level of care mandated, whilst also being forced to restrict rents.

Yeah, about that. During the pandemic, pretty much every single employee—except management—was replaced in my grandmother’s care home. They went from being local girls with a smattering of Poles and Eastern Europeans to entirely Indian. Every single one. That was a deliberate choice by the owner of the care home. I was also told that the owner of the care home owned property in the town and was putting up his new Indian workers, one to every room, so that he was making back a significant proportion of their wages in rent.

Government plans to make it harder for migrant workers to settle permanently in Britain risk a staffing crunch in care homes for elderly people, where one employee in three is from overseas reut.rs/41MiPvW
