@Coach_DeMarco A5: Coaches can tell players “how” to get better.
Fire to get stronger/transform themselves in offseason must come from players.
You are knowledge resource, not drill instructor.
When kid hits gym & invites a teammate, I reach out to say that I am proud of them.

@Coach_DeMarco A5: The less “conditioning-only” in practice, the better. Keep the intensity & competition high so drills/scrimmage serve as conditioning.
Played-led weight room & conditioning works best. Players need to buy into this culture; it can’t be coach driven.

Week 377 #GBetBBChat: Conditioning in Practice
Q5: What suggestions do you have for coaches when it comes to conditioning players in practice?

English

@Coach_DeMarco A4: FIBA 3x3: fiba3x3.com/en/rules.html
Let them play with little structure. Rules enforce pace & space.

Week 377 #GBetBBChat: Conditioning in Practice
Q4: What is your favorite SSG that incorporates game-like conditioning?

English

@Coach_DeMarco A2: to me, your shooting should’ve specific to the needs of your players or tactics.
Time everything, have target score - either against previous best or other squad. Just run your regular drills.
shoot after weight room sessions, even if only individual or pairs.

Week 377 #GBetBBChat: Conditioning in Practice
Q2: What are the ways that you incorporate conditioning into shooting?

English

@Coach_DeMarco A3: Yes -
- balance & stability - show them how the should exercise glutes/hips/core at home
- footwork & agility, including skipping
- physical finishing against contact
- have stuff for catching on balance or weighted ball balls for passing
Usually preseason.

Q3: Do you use conditioning stations (skill based or not) in practice at any point during the season?

English

Week 377 #GBetBBChat: Conditioning in Practice
Q1: As a coach, are you in favor or opposed to running sprints in practice for conditioning? Why or why not?

English

@Coach_DeMarco A1: We can so to have stakes in a competition but I would prefer:
- a high intensity shooting/ballhandling drill
- running hills on weight room days
- player led conditioning during summer
Court time is scarce so I would rather use time for skill/team development.

Kobe Bryant was asked:
"I don't understand, you are the best player in the world, why are you doing such basic drills?"
Kobe responded:
“Why do you think I’m the best player in the world? Because I never ever get bored with the basics.”

@Coach__Strick @StrickHoopsLLC There was one with UConn-TCU. TCU player hit floor, TCU committed zero fouls but play continues - ball finds open player, 3, bang.
Also, don’t play holding your shoe if it comes off. It’s a technical foul.

English

Haven’t practiced late game situations with HS AAU teams yet, but here’s our weekend…
6 sec up 1, 3 fouls to give, TO to tell them to foul…didn’t🤦🏼♂️…survived missed shot🫣
Drew up never practiced BLOB for a win✅
Up 2, no 3s no fouls Def, got the 🛑 = Dub✅

Coaches: This is simply one of the best coaching ( and leadership) articles I have ever read from my friend @Coachneighbors, the newest assistant of the @DallasWings. I am going to read it three more times today. nytimes.com/athletic/71500… via @NYTimes
English

@Coach__Strick Duke had lots going wrong (missing both flagrant FTs, missing two front ends, whatever deal was with saving ball by giving it to SJU for an And-1, not fouling).
Duke won on talent, not the details (Although shot selection - rim, 3s & mastery shots & zone rebounding) were good).
English

Hahaha I was waiting for a quick tag from someone😂
As you know, I’m a #BeYouCoach, so I was going to post it anyway to show there are no guarantees and you can win in more ways than one.
Still think stats show 4x greater not to go to OT if you foul, so I obviously still foul😉
Christopher Bock@cmbock90
@Coach__Strick what do we know. Duke didn’t foul up 3🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️. Had a decent look though. Gotta foul as soon as he crosses half court.
English

@Coach__Strick If Purdue fouls in transition, they still have both their bigs for rebounding & 3 timeouts so I think it works out in their way more easily.
T had no timeouts so I thought that foul/make TX go length of court twice play was better one but hey, Purdue finished that possession
English

Was in practices, so didn’t see😩
Accordingly to Play-by-Play I think there was too much time to foul up 3? And Purdue wouldn’t have needed this if it was “no 3s no fouls” defense🤨
But like I’ve said, D1 MBB attacking rim at 6 sec leaves time for OReb😮💨
Christopher Bock@cmbock90
@Coach__Strick Purdue-TX. Do you foul on inbound up 3 ball in front court? What do you do here?
English

@Coach_DeMarco It's a problem: how to we get the ball down the court & score against whatever ball pressure they are bringing?
The more problem solving tools you teach & the more ways to read the situation you coach, the better equipped players will be to solve the problem.

Week 376: #GBetBBChat ATTACKING Full Court Pressure Defenses
Q5: What is your "go-to" press breaker that you use with your team? What advice do you have for coaches against pressure?
#GBetBBChat

English

@Coach_DeMarco A4: One but change how to get it based on ballhandlers on team.
Used 4 across in 25-26.
I believe that if you double & protect the hoop, you can't deny reversal, middle & sideline. So if you keep your spacing, pass/pass-fake, don't dribble into the box, you are OK.

Q3: Do you use different press breakers to prepare for each press individually or use basic concepts that work well against different presses?
