I have had some issues with certain DVDs IA's formats in the past.
Also they haven't had any major updates in a while, as they've been working on VLC 4 iirc, which WILL probably break things when it comes out.

StarForce and SecuROM were always awful pieces of software, and compatibility has specifically been broken for security, which I think is a legit reason.
This doesn't make Windows backwards compatibility any less impressive, IMO.

I have no idea what the software does just from the logo, whereas the previous one gave a pretty good idea.

@KaidoGenkai Also, playing games from a harddrive is pretty good, and it's super easy to rip a PS2 DVD on a PC DVD drive.

@KaidoGenkai Replacement lasers aren't always great. I hear a number of them tend to be DOA, but often people forget to remove the static discharge solder blob on them, so who knows.

My third PS2 just died on me. Old consoles really don't hold up against time, sigh. Are replacement disc drives on E-bay the same quality as OEM? Assuming not even close, but curious if anyone has any experience with 'em.

Not a lot of people complained back in the day about paying for Live on the 360 when they saw how PSN was doing.

@coderman64 @snowingsweetie To be fair, they are the ones who started charging to play games online. Original Xbox Live was free and then they started charging a $1. Then off from there.

unironically raising kids on linux is the best way to secure linux' future. better if you do it on a difficult distro so they learn how to use computers early on in life, tha'ts how most of us learnt computers anyway by being on old windows and messing around with games

@KakarottaLeah If game-play is boring, all you remember is the automated spectacle sections, and pretty soon you feel like 90% of the game is automated because that's what you remember.

@KakarottaLeah Automation is not in-itself a bad thing.
I believe the problem that people keep referring to as "automation" has less to do with the automation itself, but a lack of significant portions of actually good game-play in-between.

whilst i agree somewhat that a level of automation is necessary but i also just dont think its a point worth bringing up without elaboration?
like even sonic 1 had automation and every game has but are we talking hand holdy modern sonic automation or nudges to keep you on track?
