My dad once outlined to me the sheer tonnage of civic activities that were available to him as a boy growing up in 1960s Canada. 60 years later, the activities are still there, but they were never passed on to a younger cohort. Rec centres are for pickleball and aquafit. Public concerts are classic rock and dominated by gray-hairs. We now have "adult exercise equipment" where playgrounds used to be. I've been told the older generations don't "hate" their grandchildren, but at a certain threshold of selfishness it doesn't matter.

Yesterday I took my two 4-year-old daughters to our local public pool—a nice, fairly new facility. They don’t have “Family Change Rooms”, they have “Universal” ones, but whatever - what’s in a name, right? There are about 14 individual private stalls, designed for parents with young kids (especially mixed-gender siblings), or people needing extra space or assistance, or anyone that needs extra privacy. We arrived to find every stall occupied except one. As my toddlers and I approached it, a sixty-something golden girl elbowed right past us, dropped her shoes on the bench inside, turned to me without a hint of apology: “I’ll be right back—my shoes are holding this spot.” As we waited we watched six or seven other stall doors open, in each one a boomer (men and women alike) lounging single-occupancy, leisurely packing bags, blow-drying hair, gabbing loudly across the corridor like it was a coffee shop social hour. No rush. No awareness of the growing line of actual families and one wheelchair waiting. This is a perfext snapshot of why we are where we are as a country. A vocal cohort—often the same demographic that polls show still reliably backs the Liberals by wide margins, even as GDP per capita flatlines and housing/affordability crush younger generations—cheerleading “progressive” redesigns and policies while quietly hogging the practical benefits for themselves, leaving everyone else (especially those coming up behind) to queue, adapt, or go without. No shame. No urgency to yield. Just a casual assumption that the system should bend around their convenience, forever.

@AlHendiify People complain that our downtown storefronts have some empty spots. Most of the two block area has been owned by two guys forever. They charge way more than they are worth and they can just sit there empty since there is no mortgage. Very frustrating to watch.

I’m going say this til I die: business landlords are a principal reason things in your city are unaffordable, why businesses want you in and out of the door, why wages are so low, jobs are so understaffed, and why small businesses aren’t multi generational.

@shesbonky Even the elder millennial had to use actual books for writing papers up through college. Online encyclopedias were not considered reliable which is hilarious because they are way less reliable now and frequently allowed to be used in lower academia.

🚨 TOYOTA JUST MADE A CAR KEY SO CONFUSING… DEALERSHIPS HAVE TO TRAIN PEOPLE HOW TO UNLOCK THEIR DOOR A full-grown adult has to explain how to unlock a car door using the new Toyota card key. The key card literally has instructions printed on it. Angle the card. Find the “right spot.” Try again. Like you’re diffusing a bomb. Even he can’t get it on the first try: “Not working… not working right.” Now people will be standing outside their own car… waving a card around hoping it works. How did Toyota just make a car key WORSE?

@Vanglorious13 @BornInTheU43614 @anttsinc The most recent WTF was: can we build a pool? It is a swim and tennis neighborhood. The neighborhood pool is one of the main draws to people moving there because they are so uncommon in our town.

The HOA said they had an assessment fee of $20,000 per house! They offered to let them pay it off in 10 years! They refused topay it Now all of the homes are being foreclosed on! Turns out the HOA took in advance of $ 300,000 in cash upfront that needs to be paid back to the construction company! If you divide the $300,000 into all the homes it’s about a $20,000 per Home fee!

@BornInTheU43614 @anttsinc We have had a lot more people moving into the neighborhood who know it is an HOA but dont think the rules should apply to them. We are open plan community with no outbuildings allowed. Been that way for 50 years and reason it is one of the most desirable neighborhoods.

I just walk up to my Tesla and get in. At the end of my drive I get out and walk away. All that locking/unlocking, shifting, parking brake, seat adjustment, climate control, and music stuff just happens for me. Phone key is the way. I do carry a plastic keycard in my wallet in case I ever need it.

@neidermyer_r @bruce_barrett Unfortunately, he will. I sometimes reinsure trucking companies (cut back a lot in the last 5yrs). One of the worst losses was from a guy that had previously caused a huge loss, went to prison for drug stuff, got hired back by the company when out, caused another huge accident.

@mattvanswol It is crazy how many of the people in the replies are totally fine with paying large amounts of taxes. 8.9% of the average tax payers taxes go toward misappropriated funds, i.e. fraud, per the govs data.

Anyone else having trouble getting up to go to work today after watching Nick Shirley's video? Pretty sure 30% of everything I make today is going to some sort of insane daycare, hospice, SNAP, or Medicaid fraud. We shouldn’t be paying taxes until this is fixed.

@Grady_Booch I mean Netscape was good, tho he didn’t do it alone. But really, this guy has been kind of a weenie ever since. And I came up in Silicon Valley in the semiconductor industry. I haven’t had a good impression of the guy in 25 years.

@NFLburneracct @KCMartinK @PabloTorre The guy publicly questioned the videos of nuclear tests on Joe rogan show. He didn't understand how they could get film of it and therefore questioned it. You have to wonder if he is so high on his own farts that he can't fathom that there are people smarter than him.

@KCMartinK @PabloTorre did you miss the part where mark said introspection was invented 400 years ago? despite it being so obviously incorrect, does the confidence with which mark is wrong not bother you? does it not make you question other things he confidently says? if not—it should!

Here is the blast wave from the M2.7 CME which occured a couple hours ago. The source region is AR 4392 which is growing and within the Earth-strike zone. The blast wave spreads out in all directions and indicates an Earth-directed CME is on the way.

@CJHandmer I was about 1.7k into fixing this on my f150. Should be a class action lawsuit. With modern cars it is a nightmare too because all the sensors are so sensitive to any little aberration in voltage.
