There was a quote I encountered somewhere as a young urbanist — I can’t remember who said it or where I read it — that went something like, “if there was a conspiracy to kill the street cars to make way for the automobile, then it was a conspiracy conducted with the enthusiastic support of the American people.” This is one of the first times I remember truly confronting the fact that what made me most mad as an urbanist was that most Americans just simply do not want what I thought I wanted. All urbanists either eventually endure this realization or remain stunted.

You may be able to have one attorney representing both spouses to amend the prenup, it's not recommended; an independent attorney for each spouse is. Do they waive billing with you? This sounds like a local agreement.

@AaronCSmith1 @thegreendingler @Bobbythirdway I didn't say you had to update prenups for them to be enforceable, I'm saying prenups are often updated to be conscionable to a judge in light of changes to the dynamics of that marriage. Assets get comingled, kids are born, or aspects may have been legislated as unenforceable.

Every woman wants to pretend that no-fault divorce never happened. But it is top of mind for every young man — we are acutely aware that women can leave anytime, for any reason, so we aren’t signing a unilaterally severable contract tied to this arrangement. Very simple.

Wife who had been it at beginning and insisted on prenup because SAHM. Husband greatly benefited at the divorce

@AaronCSmith1 @thegreendingler @Bobbythirdway You also have to pay to renew them, because that is also grounds to throw them out, due to changing conditions of the marriage. Most people can't afford to divorce to begin with. The leading cause of divorce is money. Maintaining a prenup is prohibitively expensive for them.

@thegreendingler @Bobbythirdway No they don’t. Not if you take the time and resources to actually go to a lawyer to get to drafted and then listen to your lawyer and make sure you do all the proper steps.

I'll never understand where the idea that "Chuck Jones is overrated" came from. Like, if you actually watch his stuff, you'll find that most of his cartoons are some of the funniest films ever produced.

If you grew up in the '90s or '00s you were constantly hearing about it since grade school. They had us sit in assemblies in middle & high school telling us we all needed to go to college and corralling us to apply, or else we'd never find work. This is insane revisionism:

@KayLynGians @wrowclif I'm on the fence about if & how much of her debt could be "normal". I had to take a recess from my education after an injury, and tuition costs ballooned during covid. I initially wondered how she had 90k from a 4 year degree before I realized the rest of the tale didn't add up.

@crowbar_crow @wrowclif I don't know how anyone does anything w/o some sort of debt anymore. If my adult child wanted to marry someone who had foolish/mismanaged debt, agree. If its what most normal ppl have & theyre dealing w/ it, I am less convicted. I married young w/ debt, but that's my experience.
