@dublin_damo You could have used residents for the first 'people' and immigrants for the second.
I find the diversity positive in theory but, unfortunately, the fact Dublin's population has exploded has meant I cannot afford to move home, so it is hard to see the positive whenever I'm back.
English

@RuaidhriOC 😂🤡
Tell them I have some magic beans they may be interested in purchasing.
English

@dfatirl @citizensinfo @nealerichmond I'm an Irish citizen who is traumatised about being unable to move home. Getting a job is not a problem: there's nowhere to live.
The population of my hometown has been recklessly increased by 25% since I left.
Your policies have forced temporary expats into permanent emigration.
English

Are you an Irish citizen living abroad and thinking about moving home? The 'Returning to Ireland' portal @citizensinfo supported by @dfatirl has information about returning home including employment, business supports and education.

@louistheroux Thanks Louis. It was excellent, as usual. Shining a spotlight on the injustice in the understated way that only you can.

Great to see people reacting to my new doc #TheSettlers - a reminder that if you’re in the UK you can watch it on BBC iPlayer bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod…
English

@MrDarrenMurphy @1rorycowan I left Ireland temporarily for work in 2008, when the population was 4.3 million. Now I cannot afford to return because the population has increased by almost 1/4 but housing stock hasn't. There is no room and the limited supply is exorbitant. Ditto schools and health care.
English

@1rorycowan In 2025, Ireland's population is 5.3 million.
In 1825, as Ireland’s organised emigration began, before the Famine, the population of Ireland was 7.17 million.
Too full? We haven’t even caught up with 200 years ago.
In the same period, UK population grew 340%.
English

I must be missing the patriotic gene because I can't buy into this Ireland-is-full idea. It doesn't make sense to me, and I think it's based on racism, being uncaring, and being selfish. I've thought about it a lot over the years, and I can't see anything positive in that way of thinking whereby immigrants are being treated with suspicion and hatred.
Maybe I don't feel patriotic because I'm gay, and in the past, gay people in Ireland were treated as ‘less’ and treated with suspicion and hatred, not just by people but under the law, too. Decriminalisation came in in 1993, but even now, for over half of my life, my country treated me as unequal. How could I feel patriotic about the country I’m from and where I live in light of that? I just don't have that feeling of feeling of love for, devotion to, and a sense of attachment to Ireland because Ireland treated me as unequal and ‘less’ for over half of my life.
Maybe that's the reason I'm not, and never was, patriotic. Or perhaps I think #IrelandisFull is a horrible philosophy and believe the people who support that philosophy are selfish, uncaring, and show a terrible underbelly of Irish society

@leinsterrugby @sportsfile This is a disgrace.
What happened to the good old days, when only Munster, Ulster and Connacht were allowed to sign All Blacks or Springboks?
English

Not sure if you’ve heard… 🤔
✍️ | Leinster Rugby is delighted to announce the signing of Rieko Ioane💙
The 81-times capped All Black will join the club later this year ✅

@RuaidhriOC Who's asking them to do anything? Only Munster Rugby might be asking. And, if they didn't want the fans to have to travel two weekends in a row, they should have done better in the pools.
You weren't complaining when the shoe was on the other foot.
English

Ruaidhri O’Connor: It’s inexcusable what Munster fans are being asked to do in the Champions Cup

English

@leinsterrugby @GerardYNWA @BAShelley Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it and sorry for shooting the messenger.
I know that the Leinster management has long decided to reject the path of transparency, and it is not your fault. It is a source of frustration for fans though.
Other teams are not like this.
English

@curates_egg @GerardYNWA @BAShelley Hi Rory - that’s at the coaches’ discretion what they wish to publish, and they’d rather confirm when they know for sure who is available to them and who has landed well. This was widely available to all media and some used the video. Thanks.

@Tom_Tucker08 @GerardYNWA @leinsterrugby @BAShelley I love Leinster rugby. I do not love how they treat the fans in terms of information and communication about the men's team. Seems the most obvious (and simple) thing in the world to publish on your website (and other channels) basic information about matches - like the squad.
English

@curates_egg @GerardYNWA @leinsterrugby @BAShelley Before they posted all the pre game press conferences on YouTube, now we don’t get anything other than some nonsense written by “ Rud “ and a few others
English

@GerardYNWA @leinsterrugby @BAShelley Or the website?
Why do only cherrypicked journalists get access to this information, and not your fans.
English

@leinsterrugby @BAShelley Is this media update available on social media

@rava_ian Who knows? Hansen can play 15 at a push, so slightly more versatile. But you've no cover at centre in that scenario unless you pick Frawley as the bench back - but he has no form to justify selection.
Fingers crossed on Saturday. I'm not confident.
English

@curates_egg Hi Rory, I just wonder what would have happened if Hansen was fit? Would we still have gone 6/2?
English

Just to be clear, my tweet has nothing to do with which province these guys play for.
My concern is playing Osborne out of position and against one of the most potent wingers in world rugby.
Oh, and I do get the "cover for the 6/2 bench split".
What's more important?
Ian Frizzell@rava_ian
Calvin Nash is a proven winner in the No.14 jersey but Ireland will still shoehorn someone who doesn't play there. 😤

@energybants @sama don't be fooled ... french electricity is nuclear ... but its price is many fold higher than the american fossil electricity !
English

MACRON MEETING ALTMAN IN PARIS
The guy with the most spare nuclear capacity in the world just sat down with the guy who says he needs the most of it.
A friend sent me this pic he took in Paris. It happened two hours ago.
We can guess what this meeting is for: @sama wants French nuclear energy, and/or @EmmanuelMacron wants to sell it.
France has one of the worst-performing nuclear fleets in the world, wasting enough power each year to power at least two of Sam's proposed 5GW "Stargate" superclusters.
French nuclear costs about €60 per MWh to produce versus $30 in the USA. Same reactor technology! Poor reactor uptime explains most of the difference.
How does France waste its nuclear?
- Runs many plants on a yearly refueling cycle; global standard is 1.5-2 years l
- Takes two months to refuel. In the USA we do it in 3 weeks on the same reactor type.
- Tons of random breakdowns and reactor halts. Indicates poor incentives for high performance.
- No reactor uprates. Their reactors could make 15% more power for little extra cost
- Shut down a great nuclear plant in 2021 just to amuse the greens and the Germans
- Frequently turn down the nuclear plants to make money for fossil plants and renewables; insane practice
- Insane and destructive regulatory practices from the regulator being captured by anti-nuclear forces. Should revert to the US NRC standards which are plenty strict.

@MatthewHitchmo3 @ziontree Why don't you take a look at France?
My electricity bill just decreased by 20% last week, and it was already very low.
The only concern of modern corporations is profits. Keep them away from essential public needs.
English

@curates_egg @ziontree While state run energy is always well run, effective and cheap..?
English

@CianTracey1 Crowley for Prendergast. Nash for Hansen. O'Mahony for Baird. Mick O'Driscoll for Ryan.
English

Here’s a piece on Ireland’s selection issues this week.
What changes would you make for Scotland on Sunday?
m.independent.ie/sport/rugby/si…
English

@tiernster @CianTracey1 It's a nice play but the same play, less well executed. That's a fact.
I wasn't comparing performances: they both did some great things but made mistakes.
Two very different players but both with great potential, and it is good both can get plenty of game time before 2027.
English

@curates_egg @CianTracey1 Or Crowley took the contact to create extra space.
On record as saying I wouldn't change the team at 10 next week and some of the SP critiques are ridiculous, but above is too.
It's a nice play
