1/ The rise in the price cap because of a war we did not choose is deeply unwelcome news for households across the country. We know people were under pressure before this crisis, and that’s why easing that burden is our number one priority.

Where's all the stuff he bought? It can't just have disappeared. Who has the £2,600 salt and pepper set? Who has all the games consoles? Who has the £3,500 robot lawn mower? Who has the 2 £5,000 watches? Who has the luxury pens? Does anyone know? bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

“AND YOU STILL DARE TO OPEN YOUR MOUTH…” Sasha Legerman: This is too accurate not to share. This Australian’s response to Trump’s rant that “NATO does nothing for America” is absolutely devastating: “Mate. You run a country where 600,000 homeless people will sleep on the streets tonight. A country where 40% of adults can’t cover a $400 emergency without borrowing money. A country where insulin costs more than a car payment, and people ration it just to stay alive. A country where medical debt is the number one cause of bankruptcy. A country where women die in hospital parking lots because doctors are too afraid of abortion laws to treat miscarriages. You imprison more of your own citizens than any country on Earth. More than China. More than Russia. More than North Korea. In the land of the free, 2 million people sit in cages, and a quarter of them haven’t even been convicted of anything. They’re simply too poor to afford bail. Your life expectancy is declining. You’re the only developed nation where that’s happening. Your infant mortality rate is worse than Cuba’s. Your children practice active shooter drills between math and English classes while you sell defense stocks to your friends. Your minimum wage hasn’t changed in 15 years. Your teachers work two jobs, your veterans sleep under bridges, and you just spent a trillion dollars flattening a country that never attacked you. And now a convicted criminal — found liable for sexual abuse, defending a pedophile, sleeping with a porn star, and running the biggest dumpster-fire campaign since the Taliban — is thanking you for yet another disaster. And you call Greenland badly governed? Greenland has universal healthcare. Free education. One of the lowest incarceration rates in the world. Nobody there goes bankrupt because they got sick. Nobody dies in a waiting room because insurance refused treatment. ‘NATO wasn’t there when we needed them.’ When exactly was that, champ? September 11? Because NATO invoked Article 5 for the first and only time in history FOR YOU. Soldiers from dozens of countries deployed, fought, bled, and died in Afghanistan FOR YOU. Australia wasn’t even in NATO, and we still showed up. For twenty years. And then you left at 2 a.m. without telling anyone and left everybody else to clean up the mess. You don’t care that a great nation is being terrorized by your friend, and you haven’t shown it a single ounce of sympathy. So maybe before calling other countries badly governed, take a look at your own backyard, you aluminum siding salesman with a spray tan. The only thing badly managed in this picture is your damn mouth. And you still dare to lecture the rest of the world?”

Thank you Peter for the extraordinary service you've given our party. With a new Leader & Chief Exec of @theSNP there's an opportunity to write the next chapter of our party & movement. If I am Leader of SNP I will build the team that's needed to deliver Scotland's independence.

34.8°C in the UK. In May. Warmest spring day ever. Beating the previous record by 2°C. Burning fossil fuels has made this heatwave hotter. True for the UK today, and everywhere else, all of the time.

RAF QRA underway per @ArmchairAdml, some rumours that it's Russian maritime patrol aircraft being nosey around the UK Carrier Strike Group and other NATO assets operating in the "High North". The carrier does not have F-35B embarked for this part of the CSG deployment

15:25 - TARTAN 11 is still on-station East of Lerwick. PHANTOM 12 refuelled about an hour ago, and PHANTOM 11 dropped off tracking sites around the same time further north.

MPs should when in London, live in a HMG owned furnished apartment complex, funded and managed centrally. No MP should be accumulating capital gains on property on the taxpayers coin

RAF (and Labour) should just get a few Typhoons, give them a nice red makeover, and now we’d have a fantastic modern trainer that would look bloody awesome, and be capable of manoeuvres the aged T1 Hawk could only dream of. credit Arrows AI

Nobody watches mainstream BBC/ITV anymore. Saturday night prime time used to hit 15 million viewers in the UK. Last night Britain's Got Talent scraped a paltry two million. When did you last watch network TV?

@FennellJW Possibly not, just because HMT doesn’t want to pay for it the general world consensus is 12-15,000 tonnes for a destroyer. T83 needs big power generation, 128 MK41 and powerful radars, neither T26/31 are big enough.

Would a AH140 variant work for Type 83? Given a new BAES radar suite and pared with two LUSV arsenal ships. The hull is suitable and more than 6 would be very affordable, a modern Type 42.

For another £5Bn the RN could build 1,000 Kraken small USVs for coastal work, surveillance of the North Sea or as weapon systems operating from MRSS or similar platforms.

This is a somewhat luddite thread. Below is Reach Remote, a fully operational in-service an 'proven' large ocean going LUSV produced by Kongsberg in Norway. Its the future.

Okay, I think we need to be a little brutal with this one, unfortunately. 1) The only way the RN gets remotely near 1,000 *vessels* anytime soon is by counting every last sail drone & RHIB as a "ship", assuming orders, which have, let's face it, been less than forthcoming.

I was young in the 80s/90s in the UK. I don’t remember my parents ever going out to eat, except when we were on holiday (in the UK). I don’t think they ever took me to a fast food restaurant, or ordered takeaway food. People today have no clue how working people lived. /1
Raven@raven_brah

Boomers seem to forget that fast food used to be a normal, everyday expense for them because it was affordable. You could get a burger easily on minimum wage, it wasn’t some fancy treat you had once a year as a reward for pulling yourself up by your bootstraps.
