I've found the international coverage of Portugal, as is often the case, one-dimensional, & disappointing. Portugal as a team were awful. Vitinha. Bernardo. Bruno. Woeful. Focusing on Ronaldo is just clickbait journalism. Established media outlets should be better than that.

@Aljeeves We play better without him. If Ramos had started the Congo game, he may well not have scored either but the team plays with more freedom not looking to constantly create chances for him.

Ronaldo had a poor game, as he often does. You know who else did? Real Madrid's new man Bernardo Silva. Yet another anonymous display for Portugal. UCL winner Vitinha, offered near nothing. Guys like these are shielded from criticism. They shouldn't be. They must also do better.

There are also few groups of people as disrespectful towards Portugal as Cristiano Ronaldo fans. Portugal win? Ronaldo carried them. Portugal lose? They're rubbish without him. Ronaldo has a stinker? The team aren't providing him service. It's a cult & does little for Portugal.

One of the genuine greatest things about Cristiano Ronaldo eventually retiring is that we will finally be free of 'fans' who only support Portugal because of Ronaldo. It will truly be a wonderful moment, a real burden lifted. Just a pity they started supporting Portugal at all.

Is Cristiano Ronaldo as fast as he once was? Maybe not. Is Ronaldo as physically dominant as he once was? No. Is Ronaldo capable of creating separation from defenders & getting into dangerous areas? Perhaps not. But is he going to finish golden scoring opportunities? Also no.

Always like a trip to Leiria. As for Portugal v Nigeria? A bit of a meh game as you'd expect on the eve of a World Cup. That said, Nelson Semedo and Francisco Trincão looked sharp. Inácio, Veiga and Ronaldo less so. Don't read much into pre-tournament friendlies though.
