I feel this way about earlier translations. We make fun of, say, Burton's translation of the 1001 Nights. But nobody at the time thought the original text read like a weird and stilted British guy. They made allowances. We can too.

Great thread. I feel like answer is simple and not ultimately a failure—the translator establishes a series of codes where an English word is chosen but the reader knows the usage is special. The reader suspends their discomfort, and in time the code fades from view.
