The reality is that there should be more freedom for local government to set budgets and local taxation such that they are judged on the delivery of services against the taxation the local populous will wear. I worked for a newspaper group for years. Faced with a round of redundancy, I knew that my time was up. On my own in the office one day, I cleared out all of the old, no longer used cameras. Sold them online, made a tidy sum and it softened the blow of redundancy.
