1/10 The U.S. naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz would cost Iran approximately $276M/day in lost exports and disrupt $159M/day in imports, a combined economic damage of ~$435M/day, or $13B/month. Over 90% of Iran's $109.7B in annual trade transits the Persian Gulf. Oil/gas accounts for 80% of government export earnings and 23.7% of GDP. Kharg Island alone generates ~$53B/year, or as I noted to @TIME, "$78 billion a year in energy revenue.

Some French and British vessels reportedly paid up to $2M to the Islamic regime in Iran to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. They should be held accountable for enabling terrorism. The U.S. Navy is identifying who is paying Tehran. The UAE does not negotiate with terrorists or give in to threats.

@EssienUdoka @Truthtellerftm @zriboua Has the US accomplished their objectives (which change day to day, sometimes multiple times)? Has Iran? They have sanctions dropped, still control the country, and now control the entrance to the persian gulf Iran is in a better position now than before the war

When people say Iran defeated the US I just laugh. Not a single grenade on US soil but the entire Iran will take years to rebuild and you say they won? Iran does not have control of their skies, their waterways and their arsenal is depleted and you say they won? Their leadership is gone just few ones with bots on X running propaganda makes you think Iran is winning. Wait until Trump finally don't give a fuck about what the world would say, then you will understand why Iran has lost the war in all front.

On the Strait of Hormuz: I said it before and I will say it again: Iran’s move to weaponize the Strait of Hormuz ranks among its most strategically reckless decisions. They cannot sustain control over it. Their military position does not allow for prolonged enforcement against determined opposition. More importantly, it was never a credible bargaining chip. Once escalated, it has to be relinquished without meaningful concessions. The only asset that has ever carried real negotiating weight is the nuclear program. The logic behind the move is also flawed. The expectation was to trigger a global economic shock large enough to force a halt in U.S. operations. That outcome has not materialized. Instead, it has accelerated the opposite dynamic. Regional and global actors are now investing in routes and infrastructure designed to bypass the Strait altogether. In trying to turn Hormuz into leverage, Iran is diminishing its long-term strategic value. Very stupid of IRGC.

@Kydwykkyd101 @PeachesMel Polling is pretty accurate +/- 1.5% if it’s constructed correctly (no leading/bias questions) and a representative sample size those things aren’t not difficult, but have been refined over the years. The rise of polling companies with explicit bias is concerning

@Lamingtons89 @AnalyticaCamil1 It’s probably more like have a ‘mostly neutral’ third party tour the facilities explicitly so they can report to others. consider it like a porcupine extending its quills, its warning you to not touch. some people don’t get the hint to not touch

Look, I know Americans are notably absent minded when it comes to paying attention to the wars it gets in — but there’s a reason why ‘we’ sued for a ceasefire, and not the other way around. Our stockpile of interceptors ‘globally’ is floating just above ‘E’. Over the course of this ceasefire we’ve churned out approximately ‘2’ new THAAD interceptors — the ones DoD needs to shoot down Iran’s ballistic missiles. Not 2 hundred, not 2 dozen — ‘2’. In the meantime, we’ve given the IRGC a solid week to uncork their mountain bases (on average, they need about 12 hours to do that), and to replenish their frontline launcher units. The Pakistani generals Iran showed around ‘some’ of their mountain bases have estimated that Iran at least ‘had’ north of 15,000 SRBM+ range missiles, and some 45,000 Shaheds. They’ve fired about a tenth of that, and DoD believes it’s destroyed another tenth. Even if the Iranians are lying their asses off, and their initial stockpile was only a third of that, the global economy will be immiserated if we restart this war.

Key Iranian regime figure openly threatens Lebanon's prime minister with violence as the small country gets ready for direct cease-fire talks with Israel in DC. Lebanon hasn't had seat at table of regional negotiations since 1980s when Assad regime dominated Lebanon and spoke for Beirut.

@dirtyhat @McFaul The Iranians signed but didn’t ratify the ‘82 UN resolution, but it doesn’t even matter - even on their own terms (‘58 Geneva Convention) they are violating the “innocent passage” standard they’ve lobbied for by attempting to extort transit fee’s.

Iranian dictators couldn't attack Israel and the US effectively, so they attacked and punished other countries to increase their leverage as a way to end the war. Aren't we now doing the same thing by closing Hormuz? Or am I not understanding something about the strategy? It's not only Iran that will be impacted by our blockade.
