@Srechter7 @drdry1121 "I taught college statistics" as a qualification while not mentioning any statistics and broadly referring to "they didn't try to hit homers" wins the internet for today

The Blue Jays have won one game this post season in which they did not out homer their opponent They failed to hit a home run in their 3 losses to Seattle. In their four wins, they out homered them. They out homered LA handily last night Hit home runs, win games

@Srechter7 I taught college statistics for several years. You may want to be a little more familiar with someone's qualifications before completely jumping to conclusions. It's not just the study of what numbers tell you, but also understanding when the numbers may be misinterpreted

@Srechter7 There's a difference between that being the result and actually trying to swing for that. You are confusing correlation of results with the cause of the results, which is a common error with people who don't understand statistics well enough

@drdry1121 I think all of those hitters intentionally hit the ball hard and in the air many times in their careers, yes.

@Srechter7 Actually, it is. Look at the top hr hitters in ML history, there isnt a single one that says they were trying to hit hr. They were looking to hit LD and the ball happened to go out. You're trying to tell me Barry Bonds, Albert Pujols, Griffey, ARod...none of them knew anything

@matthewk36711 Especially with no outs, the only unacceptable outcomes are a k or a pop out. Working to hit a ground ball makes it much more likely that those 2 outcomes dont happen (more ld are hit from gb swings than swing & miss or pop ups)

So tired of hearing John Smoltz be blatantly wrong on the broadcast. Run Value/100 with 1st and 3rd, no outs: Fly ball: 10.54 Ground ball: 0.845 Him advocating for Vladdy to hit a ground ball could not be more wrong.

@papa_jazz13 Not having a tom of range doesnt equal being a bad defensive player. Rice is bad, Arraez is just limited. As long as a guy can make the plays he's supposed to consistently, he would be an asset

@papa_jazz13 Based on the Padres games that I watched, he's more than solid enough at both 1st and 2nd. He may not be an absolute stud defender but he is more than capable of being a consistent steady glove

@drdry1121 I’d maybe entertain the bat if he was a competent defender at any position.

@TomPelissero You guys complaining about this do realize that this celebration is explicitly stated (with reminders sent to all the teams before the season) bc the last time it was legal resulted in the goal posts being bent and a significant delay in the game for them to be fixed, right?

The NFL fined #Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba $14,491 for unsportsmanlike conduct (use of prop) — dunking the ball over the crossbar following his TD on Monday night against Tampa Bay.

@RepSwalwell So the best way to deal with a $300M addition to the white house is to treat it down within a year or two of it being finished and spend another $300M to do something else with it. Yeah that makes sense

The Yankees already have their first base position LOCKED IN with Ben Rice. First full season: .255/.337/.499 with 26 homers and 65 RBIs. Team control until 2031... One of the most valuable players on the team 🔥

@BallByBoston @JMikeMLB @MLB There are a number of reasons why they matter. Not everything can be measured in the nice tidy numbers, and just bc there isnt a correlation doesnt mean that its not valuable for the offense. Besides, there's something to be said about consistency of scoring over just total run

@JMikeMLB @MLB Why does k% and average matter if there’s no positive or negative correlation with run creation? Why should a team cater towards stats that don’t matter?

That chart doesn’t mean shit. But you Driveline people keep making that one of your top priorities and BA will continue to fall and Ks will most certainly go up. The goal is to train hitters to be multi dimensional. Not one dimensional with only HRs. @MLB

@YankeesfanGabe @OctoberJudge1 That would be really solid, but there are a lot of yankee fans saying hes going to be a superstar and shouldnt be traded for anyone but Skenes or maybe Skubal. I like him and would be happy with .270 and 25-30/year, but he also needs to improve A LOT with the glove.

@Srechter7 I would take Arraez for the Yankees in a heartbeat. That is the kind of bat missing from the lineup (contact, low k, make pitchers work by fouling shit off until he gets a better pitch to hit). To bad the yanks put too much weight in the WAR/OPS+/wRC+ bullshit

@shegone03 I think it depends more on team construction.. if I need more of a leadoff type hitter, then Ichiro.. if not, then Vlad.

@DrivelineBB @BlueJays I think it's less a focus on bat speed and more about letting the hitters be aggressive at the plate. There's so much emphasis on taking walks now that i think a lot of hitters have lost the aggressive mindset, which makes a big difference at the plate

The @BlueJays jump from worst to first wasn’t luck or coincidence — it was the product of a clear philosophy led by first-year hitting coach David Popkins. Popkins brought in a modern model for team offense: emphasizing bat speed, measured intent, and giving hitters the freedom to compete and own their process. Gaining nearly 1 mph of average bat speed in a single season is impressive enough — but doing it with an aging roster, and seeing that number continue to rise deep into August and reach 72.2 mph in September? “That doesn’t happen without a real, deliberate change in process.”

@QuantumAlteredX Simple solution...don't bet on the games unless you understand going into it you are way more likely to lose than to win and you accept the risk. I learned that the hard way in my 20s, and now it's WAY worse with prop and live bets available everywhere.
