@SawyerMerritt Why does he always talk like he owns the space or is leading when they have zero FSD tech and only partnerships?

Uber CEO in new interview: "By 2029, we think that we will facilitate more autonomous and robotaxi rides than anyone else in the world; When the day comes that those Teslas are safe with a camera only approach, we'd love to have those Teslas on our platform as well. We've got tens of thousands of Teslas on our platform now, and some of our drivers use FSD. It's a great car, safe car, we'd love to work with them, but there are plenty of other partners in the space." (via Moonshot pod)

If loads of people were switching back to petrol, the used ICE market would be booming from all those extra trade-ins. But it's not, overall used car sales only grew 2.2% last year, petrol was basically flat, diesel fell, while used EVs surged 46%: carwow.co.uk/news/10259/use… The extra EVs on the used market are coming from strong new EV sales and lease returns, not mass regret.

The second-hand EV market is growing because way more people have been buying new ones lately, just like the huge second-hand ICE market exists because millions of petrol and diesel cars were sold new over the years. Those EVs are now coming onto the used market through trade-ins and lease returns, not because owners are rushing to dump them.

You're right, not everyone can afford to do this. The original point was mostly aimed at those who can, people on or above the average of the curve, which is still a significant chunk of the population. New BEVs aren't the only option though, second-hand is very much viable, given the average used ICE and used EV are now only ~£5k apart. Obviously I'm not saying everyone is able to switch, some people genuinely cannot.

No, not sure why you're mentioning 'save the planet' when I'm only referring to finances. What I'm saying is there's a £5k gap between the average second-hand ICE car (£17k) and the average second-hand BEV (~£22k). I'm obviously not saying this applies to everyone, but given how averages work, it would seem most people could switch if they chose to.

@elliottlock @SkyNews @JayneSeckerSky OMFG Are you sure! So you are advocating in order for people to save money / save the planet that we should all come up with thousands of pounds for an EV? What ecological planet do you live on?

@gmarshmandj @SkyNews @JayneSeckerSky Given that the average second-hand ICE car costs around £17k right now, what I said isn't unreasonable for the majority of people. It's an average, clearly I'm not saying it applies to literally everyone.

Viaplay: are you going to use this month to think about that ? or later in the season? (about Max saying he has to figure stuff out yesterday) Max: "Coming weeks, months." Viaplay: that doesn't sound too hopeful.. Max: "Ah well, life goes on. F1 isn't the only thing in life. There are other things to do." Viaplay: true, but we'd like to keep you here.. Max: "It has to stay fun though

@thomas2279 @SkyNews @JayneSeckerSky You might also want to consider the very real fuel shortages we actually saw in recent years, with queues at petrol stations and people struggling to fill up at all. Energy security cuts both ways.

IMO this isn’t really true any more. In the UK, the second-hand market is far bigger than the new one, and the average used car is about £17k, while the average used EV is about £22k. That’s still higher, but it’s getting fairly close to the wider used market, so used EVs are there for a broad share of buyers. The bigger barrier now is often perception, familiarity and confidence around EVs.

Europe will love Tesla self-driving! Due to the extreme regulatory burden of the EU, which in general stifles innovation in Europe, Tesla owners there have been stuck with basic lane-following.

German TV reporter testing @Tesla FSD (Supervised) V14 in the country as public transport in rural areas: "I was genuinely impressed. In the situations where we experienced the system, it worked perfectly and safely. I hadn't expected that. Even in the bad weather conditions in the Eifel region. In many cases, it reacted at least as well as a human driver, if not better. If Tesla is ever allowed to roll out this system nationwide in Germany, I think it will have a major impact on mobility. And that will only be the beginning of some very significant changes in transportation..."
