@Qondaalaa I appreciated hearing how their perspectives were each different and in many cases changed over time. Is that the same for you?

Articles by @estolte covering the Horner community are usually good. But this ones feels like our community is being racialized. Why push the "you are black" narrative without at least examining the nuances of the label itself. There's another side to this story.

Quick update: Yesterday, I was laid off by Bell Media, after 16.5 years with CTV, the last three with CTV National News. Sad, but doing well, and overwhelmingly grateful for the opportunity to tell stories from the front lines of history. Will take time to decide what's next.

@tt_do_u_love_me And yes, I’ve often felt like the whitest women ever while working on this partnership to help CBC Calgary better understand local East African communities. I’ve never even been to Africa. But as a colleague said, a bridge connects. That’s my role. One I take on with humility.

@estolte @katmore9 You should disclose conflicts of interest when you write a story. The identities of the individuals that you quote in your articles MATTERS. If people are willing to give their name for publication, you should also include their gov't title and role.

Hi @estolte I liked your article, "We're not Black". I think the question of Black identity is often tied to acceptance from others. The opinions among Black folks from the Caribbean here vary widely in terms of that question and East Africans. Some say yes, others say nope. 🤷🏿‍♂️

@sewrawit91 @CBCNews Those high school students are Eritrean-Canadians from Calgary, so they're part of my community, too. So happy to see them win! Hoping @CBCEyeopener can fit them in on the Friday show. It sounds like they're so excited from their experience!

@sewrawit91 @CBCNews LOL. When you put it that way, it almost sounds like a conspiracy 🙂 In reality, I knew many in the community felt discouraged about the fight that happened. So I stayed late to get something online about the robotics team. It's such an encouraging story.

Why did @CBCNews say “East African country” when the article mentions #Eritrea in a positive light but is quick to mention Eritrea in articles that perceive Eritrea in a negative way? 1 positive and 1 negative article was both written by @estolte.
