@Oxford_Life @dorfman_p Nuclear contractions are best left running at whatever output they can manage. That prolongs their life, makes them less likely to fail suddenly and means they are less of a money black hole.
If they were to be ramped up and down in time with load and weather, as you suggest....

Small imbalances affect frequency, large imbalances mean automatic protection should act.
