What do you call designers that code and ship to prod these days? “Designers” “design engineers” something else???

@slicknet Great read! These predictions seem quite plausible. I believe the shift from shipping code to shipping value is beneficial, though there will be intense growing pains.

Coding agents are commoditizing the skills we built our identity on. I wrote about what that means, why it hurts, and what might be on the other side. sarahdayan.com/blog/whats-lef…

sent this to the team today everything great comes from being able to delay gratification for as long as possible and it feels like we're collectively losing our ability to do that

@cherthedev Beyond the time it took, one thing I heard that stuck with me is that we relate to what human create because we relate to the human *need* to create. Creating is more than output. It’s the transformative experience it has on us. It shapes us as much as we shape it.

We are impressed by old art because artists spent years to create their works. We are impressed by ancient epic poems because they spent decades writing them. We are impressed by the Grand Canyon because it exposes 2 billion years of past Earth. AI is the antithesis of that.

A few weeks ago, people started to say "UIs are a thing of the past, focus on agents and making your products available to them". I was doubtful. And now look at me, asking Claude Code to find gardening tools, USB hubs and restaurants.

Prof. Donald Knuth opened his new paper with "Shock! Shock!" Claude Opus 4.6 had just solved an open problem he'd been working on for weeks — a graph decomposition conjecture from The Art of Computer Programming. He named the paper "Claude's Cycles." 31 explorations. ~1 hour. Knuth read the output, wrote the formal proof, and closed with: "It seems I'll have to revise my opinions about generative AI one of these days." The man who wrote the bible of computer science just said that. In a paper named after an AI. Paper: cs.stanford.edu/~knuth/papers/…

Dinero.js v2.0.0 is out! 🚀 This is a complete rewrite: TypeScript native, tree-shakeable functions, compile-time currency safety, BigInt support, non-decimal currencies, and still zero dependencies. sarahdayan.com/blog/dinerojs-…

ok so everyone's noticing that 4.6 keeps trying to take the easy way out yeah? - the cleanest approach is to... - since this would be a major rewrite I'll instead... - we can revisit in a future PR... and the replies! "Clean." "Done." "If you say so." mf you work for me!!!

I just released usedby.dev, a free service to showcase who depends on your npm package 📦 Show the world who you’re helping! You can even run your own on @Cloudflare (decent results Workers Free, optimal on Workers Paid).

I have to get afk for a moment and tempted to let Claude Code run on its own, but I’m seriously worried that when I come back it will have fixed all my obscure abandoned codebases, folded my clean laundry, fed my cat, and finally called back mom.

@kentcdodds Not because it’s a successful business model means it’s a desirable one. "Leveling the playing field" through ad-supported/freemium is not the goal, it’s a strategy that works wonders in an economy that fragments access to common wants and needs.

Everyone hating on ads need to come to grips with the fact that throughout the history of the internet, ads are what actually "leveled the playing field" for people who could not otherwise afford a paid subscription for services. I don't love ads and I'm glad I can pay extra to avoid seeing them, but I appreciate the fact that they can be used to make these incredible tools sustainably available for folks who cannot afford a subscription.
OpenAI@OpenAI

We’re starting to roll out a test for ads in ChatGPT today to a subset of free and Go users in the U.S. Ads do not influence ChatGPT’s answers. Ads are labeled as sponsored and visually separate from the response. Our goal is to give everyone access to ChatGPT for free with fewer limits, while protecting the trust they place in it for important and personal tasks. openai.com/index/testing-…

@addyosmani Accurate. Still I’m happy to see tons of stuff shipped by people who never wrote code before, regardless of quality. Building great stuff requires going through this phase of high output. Now that it’s cheaper than ever I’m eager to see wild ideas from a new range of builders.

AI users are working longer because, for the first time, our tools can finally keep pace with our imagination. But speed doesn't matter if you lack a destination. When output is cheap, your greatest leverage isn't how much you build, but the taste to know what is worth building - and the rest required to see the difference.
Nat Eliason@nateliason

Nearly every ambitious person I know who has dived into AI is working harder than ever, and longer hours than ever. Fascinating dynamic tbh. I have NEVER worked this hard, nor had this much fun with work.
